12 Courses, 3 hours, for 12 people

It's Christopher Kimball of America's Test Kitchen and Cooks Illustrated, etc., re-creating a 12-course feast from Fannie Farmer's "Boston Cooking School Cook Book". Everything from scratch, made on a wood-burning stove and oven. It took him and his team 18 months to test out all the recipes and included tons of research to figure out all the undocumented techniques to get the recipes right.

Check your PBS schedule and see if/when they have it scheduled this holiday season.

Here's an article from The Boston Globe about the process
http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/food/articles/2010/11/10/test_kitchen_host_takes_a_page_from_fannie_farmer_for_victorian_feast/

There's a book and a trailer here (includes pictures)

Some of the recipes that aren't in the book are here

There are a few more recipes included with this NPR info page

Another interesting review

2. You should see some of the stuff they did!
Made gelatin from scratch using calves' hoofs.

Cut a whole beef head into 5 pieces and dismantled in

Filled tangarine half peels with layers of pastry cream and jelly

All their expeiments to get the crab recipe right, and the water pastry

So many things!

I hope your local PBS station carries it and that you get a chance to see it, it's quite interesting. Chris Kimball also goes quite a bit into the history of the Boston Cooking School, as well as the availability of foodstuffs in Boston during the Victorian era. Was quite interesting.
