Purchased new monitor and can't get it to work
I have a Dell system (dimension 8200?) , 5 yrs old, and needed to replace the monitor as it's getting harder to see. I bought an LCD Monitor LG, flatron 22". I placed the installation CD in the PC and saw the LG logo on the screen on the monitor briefly, and then it goes directly to power saver mode. The installation CD never kicked in either. I finally hooked up the old monitor and it works fine. I did the install on it, then shut down, hooked up the new monitor again, and still the same response. I googled the net to see if others have had this problem, and they have, tho noone short of pulling video cards out (mines a ATI Radeon 9700 TX w/TV out), reseating them, etc and many now say the monitor works, but does periodically fail but noone could really seem to say what fixed it as they did multiple things. I've tried everything short of the video card thing. I've gone into properties, changed all that from the old monitor but I'm still vexed. Mine is currently set at "plug and play". It's the factory setting I guess. While in that mode, I have to manually select the file to install as it can't find it on it's own.

Any suggestions as to what to do? I'm ready to box this up and take it back.........HELP!

1. maybe go to control panel click on system then hardware devices
then find and right click on your monitor it shows now and then select update driver and have your cd that came with the monitor in you cd drive. Sounds like you need to load the driver for your monitor and then you'll be good to go. Sounds like the video card is ok and doesn't need to be reset or anything just need the driver for your monitor loaded. Anyways just a thought in case you haven't figured it out yet.
Good luck and maybe real help will be along here shortly ;-)

2. Check the input settings for the monitor.
I bet it is not set to your configuration i.e. DVI, DSUB or Component. Whichever one you are using. We had similar issues on these "not" so smart monitors.

3. Try booting up in "VGA mode"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/268852

If your new monitor is now working then go uninstall your drivers, boot up in VGA mode again, and then install your drivers again.

Back up first! Caveat Emptor and all that. I'm not responsible if your computer breaks.

If you want help from some fairly polite and very smart geeks I can give you a link to a different forum.

4. Take it back. It's bad.
I had the same think happen to me with a Samsung. I took it back and got another one, same model and it worked fine. I've had the same thing happen at work several times with the el-cheepo Hyndry monitors they bought.
