It all starts tomorrow.
Some of you may know, and some of you might not, that I have finally found gainful employment with one of the nation's premier high speed internet providers. I will be, if you have this provider's service, one of the people you speak to when you are having difficulties with your high speed service. And I start on the phones tomorrow.

No, you may not know whom I am working for. But thanks for asking. ;-)

Now, if you have an account with this provider, and during the call, you are struck with near-mystical insight and say "Why Tandalayo Scheisskopf, is that your hairy ass??!!", I assure you, I shall play dumb beyond dumb. Dumber than a ditch carp. Denser than a black hole that has been consumed by a bigger black hole. Just thick.

So, if you are having problems with your Internet connection, it has made you irritable and cross, and you feel like reaming some ass on the first person you talk to when you get someone at tech support, remember: that might be me.

And what have I ever done to you to gain your enmity? All I have ever tried to do here is help.

;-)

2. Good Onya Tandy
About time you got off the streets and into some gainful employment :)

Seriously, well done. I hope it works out well for you.

3. Good point. The the tech/help person, whatever the problem, did not cause it.
I am fortunate to have a service (Speakeasy) that has really excellent support staff. They don't go through a mandated sequence of irrelevant questions but listen to my description of the problem and start there. In my case, I am far enough from some box/gizmo thing that when my connection is set to run at top speed it craps out and occasionally something (Covad related) happens and it needs to be reset to a lower speed to then again work perfectly. I hope you have that same freedom to listen rather than being forced to read from a script.

But on the other hand, remember that those who start off by whining and yelling probably don't know much more than that they are unhappy. You are not so much the target of the anger but the only medium available to them through which they communicate their feelings. Let them vent, don't feel personally attacked, and then help as well as you can.

6. And to think...
I quit drinking 11 years ago, March 27th. I hope that was, all things being equal, a wise idea. ;-)

8. I can only hope it is with my provider
The really knowledgable techs are so few and far between, but I ALWAYS commend the ones when I find them, and tolerate as patiently as possible the ones who are not.

Good luck!

I always give the good ones hearty kudos. They really need it. If one is really terrible, I don't hesitate to calmly ask for a 'supervisor' either. They are required to escalate at your request.

ATT used to be the WORST for incompetence. My time is valuable too, and working with someone who clearly doesn't have a clue is not a requirement.

TW has improved. They usually escalate me to tier three pretty quickly, since I have wireless. However, last time, tier two irritated me when answering "family member" to the query, what is your relationship to the subscriber, resulted in more probing. They DO NOT need to know your bloodline in order to provide support!

That is IMPOSSIBLE. In a million years, you couldn't even fake it! ;)

Me. I know things. And I know that anyone lucky enough to get YOU on the phone - well, they will probably faint from getting such great service. :) :) :)

So, how have the first few days been? Good, I hope! :)

(remember the little people....we'll still need you too!)
