One word of advice. NEVER EVER cut and paste files into an open explorer Window and then expect that
those files will burn correctly to a cd. I tried to wrap up things at work today and ended up spending almost losing over a year's worth of work because I slapped a blank CD in and opened up the cd in Windows Explorer and then cut and pasted the files into that window. The CD burned without any errors and then when I tried to retrieve those files, they would no longer read on my system. By an extreme amount of luck, I ended up finding an old laptop that was able to read the badly burned CD and I was able to pull off 95% of the files and I'll be able to recreate the files fairly easily. Seriously, I thought I was going to drop when my system said the disc was empty. Another key lesson, NEVER EVER let your guard down and think because you've burned tons of discs in the past, that this ONE disc will NOT be the one to fry all of your data. Seriously.

Now I'm going to pour myself a nice tall glass of something!

1. If I want to burn something
I use a REAL burning app and not Microshaft.
I've never had a problem with my NTI burning software.

2. Yeah, but my work doesn't pay for REAL apps, so I had to do with what I had. I was cursing Bill
Gates for several hours.

3. Deep Burner free edition
Not very sophisticated but rock solid, dependable, accepts long filenames. Makes ISOs and everything.

6. Also ...

If you are ever in one of those situations where you can't even install an application due to security policies but can connect a USB stick, there's this:

http://portableapps.com/

And then for your specific situation here, this:

5. A couple more freeware apps that might be appropriate..
Another freeware CD/DVD burner app..

And, Unstoppable Copier, a freeware data recovery app aimed specifically at optical disks but useful for hard drives as well.

The other two apps on the page are pretty useful sometimes too..
