How do you keep your laptop cool?
I've seen homemade ideas, some involving bottle caps (yes, really). Cooling pads seem like a good idea, but they utilize the USB drive; doesn't that create more heat? I'm confused.

What is your favorite way to prevent overheating?

1. Periodically blow out the vents with compressed air.
don't put the laptop on a soft surface like the carpet or blanket. Always make sure there is clearance underneath to allow airflow. If you run it a lot on external power, take out the battery. that will both keep it cooler and extend battery life

3. First, I keep it clean, blow it out with canned air once a week.
Second, when I'm using it, I put a couple of old prescription pill bottles under the back adjacent to the back "feet" to keep them from rolling. That tilts the unit off the desk and gives a nicer angle to the keyboard.

There are gadgets you can buy that do this, but I'm cheap and gawd knows I have enough old pill bottles kicking around.
