Need clock help with laptop
I just bought a new laptop after my old one fizzled out and I'm having trouble keeping the time correct. I set the time and within 2-3 days it reverts back to 1 hour earlier. It is a Acer 2450 Win 7. Otherwise I have have had no other problems. Any help is appreciated. thanks

1. Right click time/date on taskbar>>select Adjust date/time>>
Open the date and time settings>> adjust time>> make sure you have the right time zone selected>> make sure you have Automatically adjust clock for daylight savings time checked.

2. With this time zone
Edited on Sun Sep-26-10 10:54 AM by Sadie5
there is a message that this time zone does not automatically adjust, no box to check. I think this time zone was created when a few years back Indiana central started on daylight savings time after many years of not changing our clock back and forth. On my other laptop this time zone worked very well and kept correct time. Can there be any other reasons that the clock would lose 1 hour? Thanks-sadie

3. Can't be 100% sure about this Sadie5
but I suspect that Win 7 may, by default, synchronise with an Internet time server whereas with XP you had to turn it on yourself.

There is a workaround, called the tzutil.exe which is built into Win 7.

Windows 7 includes tzutil.exe, a Command Line Utility. This can be used to change Time Zone or to get the current Time Zone details.

To run the utility, Run cmd as an Administrator.

At the command line, type in any of the following commands to achieve the following results:

- To know current time zone : tzutil /g

- To get a list of all available time zones : tzutil /l

- To change time zone : tzutil /s timezone (where timezone is to be replaced by the desired time zone. eg Universal Standard Time).

4. By default Windows 7 updates your system clock over the Internet once a week
Edited on Sun Sep-26-10 05:19 PM by Earth Bound Misfit
& is synchronized with 'time.windows.com'. To disable this or manually update your clock, click "Internet Time" tab>> "Change settings" button. If for some reason the system time is not updating or is inaccurate, click the drop down box and select another time server for Windows to connect to for this purpose. To update manually, click the 'Update now' button. To disable the automatic update functionality, untick the 'Synchronize with an Internet time server' option.
