Is it possible to disable the Vibrant ads pop-ups??
Edited on Sat Oct-16-10 01:53 PM by madfloridian
They drive me crazy on some pages. If you click the help part it says to delete the cookies, but then it just comes right back again. I try to avoid the links for the ad, but on some pages it is impossible. Some of them are videos now, and they are so annoying.

Here's an example of one such page.

1. Get FireFox and use the add-on...
Ad Block Plus.

A visit to the link you posted filtered the following items (no popups and no ads):

3. I am trying Ad Block Plus. So far so good.
I just could not take it anymore. Today 4 pages I was researching on had those blasted intellitext pop ups or whatever they call them.

So far pages loading faster. Maybe someday there will be laws about pop ups like that,...so until then..

I went to the page I linked to in the OP...and no ads at all.

2. AlI do is is down load the host file at the link and customize it for where I go.
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

I tried Ad-Block and found it a PITA.

I don't see most ads, not even on DU, if for some reason I am not logged on.

G:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

Anyway, I added these lines to the top of the Host file. Cleaner and faster surfing because the ads don't load, not even behind the scenes.

4. Thanks for the tip.
I may end up trying something like that, but trying Ad Block Plus first.

7. +1000
The very first thing when I install a system is upload my custom hosts file. Mine has about 100 entries in it, grows weekly.

I can go to my new Winxp install box right now and open Internet Explorer and don't see any ads on DU(not logged in).

Firefox bla, bla, bla... this is a test VirtualBox system.

6. Amazed how quickly sites load with ABP.
The one which has the most stuff blocked so far is Daily Kos. Not surprised. It has been hard to load for so long, and I have a very fast computer. Huff Post loads faster also. Hovering over the icon shows how many blocked...Huff Post and Daily Kos have by far the most from the sites I regularly visit.
