Time to play the upgrade shuffle.
Got a Phenom II X6 3.2 GHz Black Edition to upgrade my main system From a Phenom II X4 3.2 Black Edition running stable at 4GHz. See if I can get it to run at 4.

So which one of two other systems should I put it in? The X3 running at 3GHz or the X3 running at 2.9.

Then I'll have to get another motherboard for the extra cpu-it's always something.

1. Well, that was fun.
Put new cpu on board. Posts and then freezes. Disabled 2 of 6 cores and boots just fine. WTF!
Try different 6-core cpu-same problem.
Off to Frys for new motherboard-We have lift-off!
Checked BIOS revision on old board-it's up to date so that's not the problem. Works just fine with quad cores but not 6 core even though MSI says it will work.
I've had a few glitches with the board before but it always started working after a reboot. Old board was MSI 890GXM-G65. New board is MSI 870A-G54

2. I wish I remembered the details. I built 5 boxes last year, so did a huge amount of
reading specs

So one thing I was thinking of building was mobo B with cpu C and memsticks M. Checking prices and speeds with one eye, compatibility with the other. Great: mobo B supports cpu C! Great: mobo B supports memsticks M! Not in a hurry -- wait a week, reading every review I can easily

And here's the unbelievable damnable thing I finally learn in some forum: cpu C is incompatible with memsticks M! Yeah, if I built mobo B with cpu C and memsticks M, it wouldn't work. Hard to believe, so I try to track it down -- and in the end, sure enough, there it is in plain English on the cpu mfr website. I think the sticks were too fast for the chip
