Looking for another addition to our family
and was wanting some advise if possible. We currently have a Beagle/something mix who has been a wonderful part of our family. Penny is her name, and she is so gentle and loving with my children; I could not have asked for a better dog. See, My youngest (was 7 when it happened) was attacked by a dog we adopted requiring some reconstruction to his face (lip area). Not long after the surgery, we found Penny, a puppy who more or less adopted my youngest and became a big part of our family.

Here is a pic of Penny from some time ago, but one of my favorites:

So anyway, we are looking for another puppy beagle if possible (or any other breed known for being friendly to children). I don't care about pure bloods or papers. If anyone knows of one, or of places I can look/contact, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

LK

1. What a cute little girl! Check with beagle rescue groups in
your area for adoption prospects. Just google "beagle rescue groups." Do you have an animal shelter or humane society nearby? If not, a rescue group would be your best bet. Good luck. Beagles are such happy-go-lucky dogs and would be a wonderful addition to your family.

2. City shelter, county shelter, or any of the other groups in your
area. They will have many animals who have no chance unless someone like you comes in to take them.

3. Yes, I've been contacting them for afew weeks.
That's actually how we got Penny, from a rescue outfit near here. They found her on the side of the road in a cardboard box. The dog we adopted first.. the one who attacked my youngest was from a shelter so I remain alittle uneasy about this (unless it's young). But, I'll actually make a call to the two nearest me right now.

5. Try to find a rescue group that does home based fostering.
If a dog has been fostered in a home with kids, it should be good in a forever home with kids.

6. What part of West Virginia are you in?
I volunteer for a lab rescue in the DC area, and we may be getting a litter of 10 week old pups in this week or next, depending on the snow. Everything is still unsure, may be 2 pups, may be 6 pups, or we may not get any at all. But they asked me to foster if they come in, and we are having an adoption day event on Sunday in Gaithersburg.
