I wish I had a bottle of dog smell!
On days like this, with this election going on and the world around me threatening to catch me up in the political rage; I wish I had a bottle of my puppy's smell. Yes, even this morning after I took her to a farm to play with a friend's new pup and they discovered the wonders of horse shit last night. Her little doggie smell, that I have been fortunate enough to know since July, is kind of like aroma therapy when I'm upset, it calms me down because it is little Layla's smell. The smell that belongs to big, warm brown eyes and the white tip of a wagging black tail (and a rather piercing bark when she wants something).

She will probably try to herd me downstairs to be with her human Dad tonight, nipping and barking, she won't understand that I'm a massive liberal and he is brain-washed by right wing radio. She knows we both love and pet her and will yap at me for avoiding him tonight. In Layla's world everyone needs to be together in the same room, neither of her human sheep needs to be where she can't see them, LOL, nutty adolescent Border Collie mix.

Her little smell is one of the most calming things on Earth. Better than Lavender oil. I always pet her and get a nice big sniff of her head in the morning before I leave for work. Maybe I'm nuts but I was without a pet for 18 years and I forgot what I had missed.

1. There is a difference between a dogs smell and a puppies smell
I can usually locate a bit of the puppy smell even on an older dog if I sniff real deeply into their forehead right between their eyes in their fur.

I like the puppy smell too.

That and drying alfalfa are about my favorite smells.
