Retired Military Service Dog Receives Stem Cell Treatment
Their son was the handler. He was killed. They adopted their son's dog......

video and pics...

A Mississippi family has a lot to be thankful for after suffering a devastating loss.

A local veterinarian is helping to give their fallen son's military service dog a new lease on life and their family new hope in healing.

1. "He's not a normal dog."
Nope, he's a GSD.

What a handsome boy.

Apparently, the handler was killed and the dog was injured in the same incident and were lying together in each other's blood. At first the military wanted the dog back and made him serve another year or so with a new handler, but the family prevailed and got the dog early retirement with their family. I can't think of anything more appropriate, and I'm so glad they fought to have the dog retired and given to them.

I balled my eyes out through the whole video.

I should mention that video I watched was different than this one and was a lot more detailed about what happened to their son and the dog and their fight to have him retired early and given to them. It must have been taken later by some other news corp because they talked with the family in the yard at their home and the dog had already grown his hair back and was scampering in the yard playfully. He looked much happier and healthier than in the video from the OP which must have been taken soon after his surgery.
