It hurts even when its your neighbor's dog
Our neighbors, like us, have always had multiple dogs. Our yards are separated only by a small, narrow little brook. The dogs all know each other and play together. Yesterday they had to put their oldest dog down. Kidney failure. The surviving dog is clearly missing his old pal.

He was a good, sweet old dog. We will surely miss him, too.

2. Sad news....Those left behind, including other pets, mourn and feel the loss.

3. Sad, but dogs are amazing
I never knew how amazing they were until June when we got our puppy. We got her right after my Dad died, and at that point his little, old dog went into a very hard and long period of mourning for him. My Mom didn't think she would make it for a while since she is 13.

4. There are oh so many dogs out there this very moment facing
eternity if someone will not give them a home. It sounds to me like there might be an open bowl, maybe a corner in the doghouse, or a chair in the house that a dog could use, if he had the chance.

5. All the dogs in this story would face that were it not for their having been adopted by
us or our neighbors.
