One of my foster kittens is dying..
I also posted this in the lounge..

I am so sad right now.. One of my five week old boys, the orange tabby (Rufus) is dying from advanced pneumonia. He is being cared for by a vet tech that is part of my rescue group. She is doing everything she can but she doesn't expect him to live out today.

This is my first group of foster kittens and they have been fighting a stupid URI from the first week. I took them to a vet last week who sad they were healthy and just needed eye drops. I took the sick boy Rufus into a different vet yesterday on an emergency basis. He was having trouble breathing, not eating, I knew he was dying. The damn vet tells me his symptoms are part of a bad URI. They sent me home with antibiotics and fluids to give him, etc. I knew they were wrong and I don't have a stinking degree in vet medicine.

This morning I called one of the medical people within our group and brought him over to her. She knew instantly it was pneumonia.. I am so pissed off right now!!!!

How can I know more then a vet? I tried my best to get him care twice. My kids are devastated and so am I. I know one kitten may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things but he's not to me.

Please say a prayer or a happy thought for Rufus the kitty.

1. Sending positive thoughts and prayers to you all
and Rufus.

I have found over the many years of pet ownership, that vets do not know everything. I had to tell my vet that I thought my dog had Cushings Disease....and what if my Misty had been properly diagnosed when I first noticed the symptoms? I will always wonder about that. We lost her two months after the vet's "diagnosis".

Now that Rufus has a diagnosis, everything that can be done for him will be done.

 to you all.

I'm so sorry about your baby guy. 5 week old kittens are so hard to pull through with URI :-( So I will give you both a hug now O8)

4. Prayers and good karma coming your way
I'm so sorry to hear this news, Prozacnation. Little Rufus isn't insignificant to me, either.

I just brought home a foster kitten myself; he's two weeks old, and I got him from a woman on Freecycle who had been trying to raise him while she was deathly allergic to cats. When I picked him up, her whole face looked swollen and her eyes were bright red. You could tell she loved the little guy dearly, but her body just couldn't handle it. There are others out there who will never see little lives like these as "insignificant"; they're rare but very special people. You've done very well by your foster kittens. Mama cat was lucky to have found you. :loveya:
