Anyone know of an OTC cure for a cat's UTI?
A stray that has adopted me has started leaving pink spots when she pees or tries to pee. It would be very difficult to get her to the vet and I was just wondering if there is anything I can try first. I will attempt to catch her if I can't find anything else. I have never had a female with a UTI before. Just males.

1. Pink pee spots sounds like something not to mess with --
if you can, take her to a clinic, sounds like she might need some attention and antibiotics. Just to be safe. Good luck, let us know what happens.

2. One of my females had it. Science Diet has a formula for it
Can't remember which one...C/D maybe?

But she should really get on antibiotics. Good luck.

3. c/d dry food. They have canned food, too.
I believe you need a prescription from the vet to get this food. I agree, though, you need to get her to a vet as soon as you can.

4. If she has crystals, there are more than one kind..
struvites can potentially be elminated; the food usually recommended is Science Diet s/d (c/d is for when the crystals are gone.) If they are oxalates, food will not dissolve them. These are prescription foods but if you have a specialty pet store in your area, which sells high end food, sometimes they sell the prescription foods 'under the counter' so to speak.

She could also have an infection. She does need to get to a vet.
Maybe someone could lend you a trap? Or, you could try putting down a large carrier with food or catnip all the way at the far end. Maybe you can lure her into it then close the door behind her.

Are you sure she won't let you pick her up?

5. Thanks. I didn't know the
difference between c/d and s/d. My vet has sold me both kinds, but didn't tell me the difference.

Anyway, none of them worked on my Blue Himalayan. I had to finally "turn him into a girl". The stitches were removed last week and he is doing really well now. Whew!!!!!!!!! Expensive, too.

6. I almost had that happen to my older male cat too
he got UTIs and crystals for a period of 3 yrs. off and on. We think we solved the issue by giving them filtered water, not TAP, vet said maybe it was the ph or mineral content of the H2O or something? He one one infection away from the penilectomy or whatever they call it.

He was on science diet for a long time, but now he is doing well on Royal Canin for seniors (10-15 yrs. formula)

7. Don't wait! Get to a vet! This can kill a cat in days.
Don't hang around on DU. Get her to a vet.
