3. It's so wonderful
It's so emotional to see the outpouring of help. I am grateful to you OGR for giving so many people the opportunity to do something to help. You continue to inspire me!

Did you know there are studies that show it increases our endorphin level (the feel good hormone)to give to someone in need? Even when I am not in a position to give monetarily, I offer a silent prayer.

5. That request took a lot of courage
I too find myself in the exact same situation. In 08, I went in to a dentist because of a chipped tooth. While there they inform me I should have major work done. 3 root canals and several filled teeth later I was looking at a bill for well over $4000. which we did not have, but we struggled and just paid it off this year.

Then in the spring one of my canine teeth broke at the gum line. I went to a dentist and they told me they could not fill it or do anything for me unless I could fork up the dough. One of the ladies there suggested I go to the local drugstore and buy some OTC tooth putty, which I did. Every week I have to stick more putty in the tooth to keep it from bothering me.

We started looking at sending me to Costa Rica as we have heard great things about their work and how the cost is a lot cheaper there but the work is just as good as American dentists.

Then in June I went to Baylor Dental school to see about them taking me as a patient. Everything was going pretty good until I mentioned checking out CR, the man overseeing the students seem agitated that I brought that up and suggested that I have all my teeth pulled. That's 10 teeth, in which I just paid out $4000 worth of money I didn't have back in 08. We were looking to set me up with implants on ALL my missing molars, but I have decided that is just another expense that we don't have to deal with at this time. I've been without them for years, so a few more won't hurt. Although it would be nice to eat on back teeth again.

Now one of my front teeth is chip, chip, chipping away in the back side. I fear what will happen if I don't get this fixed soon. We don't have the money, but we are willing to dig deeper in debt to pay for a trip down south. I'm forgoing the implants at this time, and just looking to take care of the broken teeth and my gum disease.

It's does take courage and it's embarrassing to have to admit how painful it is to have to address these situations over a message board. It really says a lot about America's health-care system, or lack thereof.

OGR: THANK YOU for making it possible for asdjrocky to get the help he needs. That is also a wonderful gesture on your part.

6. Bless your heart, MM.......
Would you be open to posting to the wishlist and someone starting a similar fundraiser?

I can't officially do it...as Wishadoo can't specifically create fundraisers for individuals for legal reasons...but an anonymous Wishadoo~er by the screen name "Giving Heart" can do it. ;)

Or anyone else can via the Wishadoo! page at the fundraising site: http://www.giveforward.org/wishadoo/

8. Both husband and I are in slightly similar situations
although not so bad. I have gum disease and a couple missing molars; and if I smile too big you can see the cavities in my teeth very well. I try to keep them as clean as possible and am whitening with a gentle whitening product, since my profession requires me to look attractive.
Husband's are much worse, but he has most of his teeth. Because of smoking some of them have black around them. It's not very good but we've managed to stay on top of the couple that had to be pulled so he can at least eat. But it's not headed in a good direction; and sometimes he still has pain. We do a wait-and-hope every day.

It's a shame we've all come to this point in this country.

I am starting oil pulling finally; I hope it will help me. Husband is resistant to this kind of thing sometimes so it's harder for me to get him on a regimen.

10. Thanks lildreamer316. It's a dilemma...

I am beyond thrilled at the outpouring for Rocky. It is stunning, really. We're both in shock. :wow:

I'm seeing more and more just how very, very hard it is for people to ask for help. Heck, if it were me, I would be terrified/hesitant/embarrassed to put myself out there, too.

For all the people who chimed in and helped Rocky -- and shared that they're also in dire straits, both on the board and in PMs -- no one has posted at the wishlist yet, and not many have signed up to Wishadoo.

It takes time. It took Rocky about a week to build the courage to put his story out there.

And people can post on behalf of others, too (especially for those who don't even have an Internet connection). Still, the person in need has to be willing to allow another to do it on their behalf, so it's still putting their personal situation "out there" in the process of asking for help.

It IS a pathetic shame that our society is as it is. But, it is for now.

I'm sharing and rambling now since this is ASAH and where I ramble and share...lolol.

This is where I have to set my own personal boundary. As an empath, I feel others' struggles and suffering almost acutely at times...it grows stronger as I get older (or as the veil thins?).

I've always been the type of person people share their most intimate struggles with, and I -- like most people -- want to help. It gets overwhelming though, so it's been my dream to find a way to help people's needs and dreams come true by enabling -- EMPOWERING -- others to connect to help them.

I've created that space, to the best of my ability, at Wishadoo.

Now, it's up to others to make use of it. Now that the door has been opened, I'll be devoted to spreading the word about it, but I have to set the boundary or requirement that people "put it out there" -- that is their huge leap of faith -- and I'll be doing my level best behind the scenes to enable connections and wishes to be fulfilled.

But, we have to gather first and put ourselves "out there."

I think that's the next video...the fear of putting ourselves out there and taking that leap of faith, without expectation...
