Music with so-called deep alpha pulses—designed to stimulate relaxation. Here's a random site with a listing for the CD I tried last night, "Sapphire Skies & Dancing Clouds," made by some group called Alpha Relaxation Solution:

Oh. My. God. As the label suggested, within a few minutes, my brain waves had obviously "synced" to the alpha pulse whatever (I don't care how it works, it's greeeaaaat) and I was cruising in a mega-relaxed zone. Very hard not to relax when listening to this stuff. I couldn't believe it when I looked up from what I thought had been like, an hour of deep relaxation, and I'd only been listening for 28 minutes.

Borders has a whole bunch of these CDs, and when time allows, I'm getting the ones that promote relaxed napping and ones to use when you want to achieve ultra-deep meditation (apparently, this involves gamma pulses).

1. Check out Dr Jeffrey Thompson's cds as well his site has sound clips

His Gamma and hypergamma CD were made to mimic the brainwave patterns of tibeten buddhist monks meditating. Here is one page on his site. I have the Awakened Mind set and the Gamma set as well.

Many years ago I ordered some brain wave tapes, but had to throw them away
as they made me feel like I was going to have a seizure or something.
They made me feel horrible.

But those are really pleasant.

23. I bookmarked this thread after reading it awhile ago, and wouldn't you know

I was at the library Friday and my sweetie and I were checking out DVDs as we often do, and walking by the the CDs, this caught my eye:



And I would have kept right on going, except I remembered this thread and wondered, "Is this the same CD I saw in that thread in ASAH?"

And it was. I checked it out last weekend and burned it to my hard drive and then to a blank CD before returning it to the library and I've listened to it for 3 days straight already :) So just now I checked in the online catalog to see what else they have and they also have this, which I will go back and check out next time we're there.

4. My husband and I make custom CDs

with different brain wave frequencies, based on your birth tone. It is neat, and very relaxing. I like the one he made me that goes through the different stages to deep meditation.

25. What program do you use?

Because I used to play around with doing that on a sound-editing program called "Cool Edit Pro". Adobe bought them out some years back, tripled the price and changed the layout. I held onto my copy of Cool Edit as it still works fine and can make all the brainwave frequencies.

There are certain patterns to use for getting into the various states, inlcuded in the help file. I have not found a copy of that online, however.

sort of a poor man's acupuncture--gets a lot of the same vibes. It is so sad, terrible really, that mainstream medicine has been co-opted by big pharma. 21. Hee; mind-meld. I just bought another Jeff Thompson CD on Monday night ("Breathe").

For some reason, the Alpha-stimulating ones work the best for me.

I gave my sister one of these ("Unwind") for Christmas and I really hope it helps her. These things are just so darn useful!

22. I have yet to try an alpha cd. I have been using the deeper waves looking for natural help

to reach altered states but most often the delta simply to help reach the state of sleep! I esp. like to listen to them when getting bodywork. Talk about BZZZZZZZZZZZ!

I went to Borders and got an Alpha CD and a Theta meditation stream CD. They are AWESOME!
I listened to the Theta one a couple of hours ago and am in a State of Bliss.

These should be wonderful for my daughter, who has an anxiety disorder. I think I need to get her a Delta one too, since she has trouble sleeping and gets bad nightmares.
