Here we go again (The Secret):

I know not everyone is into it or likes it, but the negativity still astounds me.
Ah, well. I should learn not to rise to the bait.

1. You can like it or you can not like it.
Truer words have possibly never been said.

2. It's just....
well...I have a hard time expressing why it helped me so much, vs. the other ways this same info has been presented before. It was packaged to reach the most amount of people, by addressing needs everyone has: material needs. But the message is so much more than that, and the challenge is to see the essence of the message, and to take from it what works for you. I find that it works best for me when I request once from the Universe, and then completely forget about it. I do not do the whole visualization thing, or if I do, I do it once and only once. Things have arrived for me, but more when it was best for me and mine to have them, not when I wanted them (right NOW!!)

The essence for me was to understand the way the Universe works, and to put myself in that flow, and RELAX. And TRUST.

So far, so good. I feel in the flow, and that's better than I have felt in a long time.

I just wish ppl could see the deeper meanings within the message. But I am only responsible for my own learning.

5. "I just wish ppl could see the deeper meanings within the message."
Well said, and very true.

What people may not understand is the direct correlation between negative thinking as evidenced in the thread, and it's actuation.

The concept of syntony. Gratitude. Acceptance. Forgiveness.

I'm big into grasping and resentment, beyond my ability to release it of my own willpower. I have found that I am certainly able to manifest my worst side quite easily. The angrier I get, the more quickly similar things appear in my life. I'd long ago taken to viewing what appears in my life as direct reflections of my inner workings. That's probably when my drinking went out of control ;) Unwinding my victimhood and martrydom has proven an endless task, but an oh so important one, as that is certainly the path that it has created in my life. Whatever energies we tie ourselves to, we increase internally and externally. We should be completely clear of negative energy prior to using manifestation/mental screen techniques. And that's not a simple thing...

My main problem with The Secret is that it, as you mentioned, sells itself through the material message. Some LOA literature specifically does so, and do not describe the potential addiction and greed that can occur through the use of what the Buddhists call The Wish-Fulfilling Gem. It's a selfishness trap if not thought through. A nuclear weapon given to children without warning of the potential results... Do we truly know what will make us happy? I grew up in a rich area that was nearly utterly bereft of humanity and love. I couldn't wait to get out, and am still untangling from it my view of money.

My will is utterly defective. I'm working upon forgiving (an alien thing to me) and seeking God's will, and trusting God's will regardless of what I have manifest of my own self-will. I ask the Creator to uncreate the negative that I have manifest of my own will, and to bring the greatest good for all.

Besides, the heart is the center of our being, not the mind. Beware purveyors of knowledge and not love.

11. I like to...
work within the paradigm of the people doing the complaining. My reply concentrated on "The Secret's" message that we have to grab the opportunities presented, and not limit ourselves by our thinking. Trust in the universe is not something that will be acheved by someone who attacks "The Secret". When he's done complaining about a DVD causing the housing market to tank, maybe he can learn the deeper message.

3. I think that you handled it very well, lildreamer.
I personally don't care what other people think about esoteric teachings. Yes, The Secret was mass marketed and, yes, many people focused only on the physical things that they could bring into their lives. However, the Law of Attraction is so much more than just manifesting objects. The people who are ridiculing it in that thread are never going to "get it", so I don't even try to explain it. However, if someone were to ask me about it, I'd be happy to share what I know with them.

Don't you just love the glee expressed in that thread in reference to people's problems? :(

4. Yeah, that just...
is too bad. Really, too bad.
As I said, I gotta learn to not rise to the bait..but I feel the other 'side' of the argument deserves at least one person standing up for it.
Whew. Thank Universe I have this group to hide in!!

6. You did just fine.....

...representing MY feelings toward the book. I think people are afraid to make the wrong choice when it comes to a set of beliefs. As evidenced by this forum there are many sets of beliefs that get people through their days/lives.

8. Yep, you got it!
People come to things in their own time, in their own way. Or, sometimes not at all. My husband prefers to think of them as coincidences. I choose to see it as flow. Each time the teachings come around, they appeal to some who might not have "gotten" it before and when others are ready to see it, they will. (you know, or not as the case may be)

IHAD, I love what you said: "I personally don't care what other people think about the esoteric teachings." Love how you can detach from it. I am learning that lesson too.

Hey, if anyone wants to see where I've been hanging out this week, check out www.sanctasophia.org - (speaking of esoteric teachings) and it's been a great week. The energy here in Sparrow Hawk Village is great and everyone here is of like mind which makes me very happy!

Peace to you all.

9. Thank you for the link, mysticalchick. The school looks amazing!
I think that it's really interesting that it's a Christian mystical school which focuses on esoteric teachings. :)

Personally, in reference to the attitude of the people posting in the thread that lildreamer referenced, I think that some people chose to have a non-spiritual life this time around. Who knows, maybe I'll choose to do that in my next life; there's much to learn from that type of life as well. However, from my current perspective, I think that it would be quite boring.

12. Is the school in OK? I knew Carol Parrish I think in Wichita KS.
Do I have the same Carol Parrish? I suspect I do. Fine lady and it sounds like the school would be very rewarding for the participants. I've heard others speak highly of the school too, I believe, if it's the one I'm thinking of in OK.

Nice place for mysticalchicks to hang out, or anybody else for that matter.

7. If you really want to trip out on a book...
Edited on Sat Mar-01-08 08:12 PM by BanzaiBonnie
try "Busting Loose From the Money Game" from author Robert Scheinfeld. Takes it further than "The Secret" and gives an actual process for busting loose from the money game ---- if you dare<G>

It's a lot of work and it's about going into some uncomfortable feelings, but boy is it worth it. Much of what I've found in my own work so far is not even directly related to money. Interesting.

I recommend the book. It blew my mind. You'll not look at the world the same way ever again. Start at the beginning, no fair skipping ahead. He lays out his case for what is real and what is not real.

15. Thanks for the rec! That looks really interesting.
Also, another book (that is now going to be a new version audio book) that a lot of ppl on the Secret forum seem to like is "The Emergency Handbook For Getting Money Fast" by Carol Dore. Whenever I have the extra money I'm going to check that one out too, but I think I'll get your rec first.

10. I saw that thread too...
... I am glad you replied. Your posts were thoughtful, measured and polite. There's a lot of negativity and bitterness on many online message boards, and it's good to see posts that display compassion and broadmindedness. :)

I also frequent my hometown paper's comments board, and sometimes the posts are so mean that I feel compelled to say something. It's amazing how cruel some people can be behind the mask of anonymity.

But everyone's so nice here! :)

13. Since I'm working hard with the concepts of Abraham Hicks, I think the
main part of the LOA is the vibrating part. I was fortunate enough to get the version of "The Secret" with Esther & Abraham. I'm activitely reading the Abraham books, listening to the monthly CD's, and I meet with a group of friends once a month. Getting our vibrations at a level that can be read and understoond is how we manifest. I'm being really conscious of things I can do to vibe higher. Unfortunately, "The Secret" doesn't really focus on it. IMO it's hard enough to understand the Abraham & Vibration concepts even for those of us who are doing the work. However, if nothing else, at least people are reminded in "The Secret" to focus on the good, think positive, etc. Doing those types of things can really help a lot of folks... but there are pretty much always going to be the nay-sayers and the negative people so I take their critisism very lightly.

14. I have that version too!
I don't think I would like it without Esther & Abraham. I also think that's why I got what I did from it.
I like the Abraham books, but I have to take them in small doses. I usually wait until they call for me to come read them...that means I'm ready to recieve what they are saying. :D

18. I like the Abraham books too.
I never read -The Secret_. I am taking my time going through the first three books in the Abraham series. The part about the vibrational levels matched with intention in the "creativity workshop" truly resonates with me. I too, go little by little with the books as I am simultaneously learning energy work, astrology, and furthering my studies in spirituality along with a host of other more earthly pursuits. I think "The Secret" isn't really a secret, these concepts are hardly new.

One thing I would like to share is to be careful how much thought energy, time and emotion that you invest in bad news, especially negative economic news, commentary and forecasts. The more people devote to it, the greater they will manifest it. Transformations in the worlds of finance and institutions are likely to occur during this pluto transit through capricorn, but it is up to us on how difficult or painful it will be. We can make it a positive experience or a negative one.

16. I've used Masterminding 101.
It's based on Think and Grow Rich. It's a course where you get together with at least one other person, in person or on the phone or web, at least once a month, once a week, or whatever you agree on.

You go through lessons and write out your affirmations in a list. You say "I request and accept _________", and say this at the beginning of each item on a list of goals. When you get thru, your partner says "I see and agree for you that ___" for each statement.

Then you reverse roles.

I think it's done some pretty amazing things for me. It's based on the MasterMind principle, of two or more people gathering for a common goal and invoking a third higher mind.

It's sold by Mary Robinson Reynolds. She has several websites, so just Google her name or Masterminding 101.

I've used it with the same partner for over two years. We meet by phone every week. We miss some weeks, but keep going. Your list of requests changes as circumstances change.

17. I hear ya lildreamer about how much we can take of Abraham because
it's so much info. to absorb it can be overwhelming. I don't think a whole lot of people have the version of "The Secret" with Esther & Abraham. I agree that they are, imho, a major part of the true core of "The Secret."
