Retrograde planets in your birth chart
I've always been really interested in what retrograde planets in a birth chart mean since I have Mars, Uranus and Pluto retrograde in my chart. I found this article that I thought others might find interesting. Of course, this is just one person's opinion of what they mean...

You don't have to believe in reincarnation to heed your astrological past life. Past lives can be a metaphor to help you better understand the meaning of retrograde. When you look to your past life for guidance, you can see the astrological lessons you need to focus on today. Past lives teach us to attain enlightenment by reviving the old ghosts of important occurrences that shaped our personality. You must master this plateau before you can evolve spiritually and holistically.

Please keep in mind that Astrology is a guide, not a god. It is not a belief system but merely suggests methods by which we may live our lives to the fullest. Real Astrology is quite complex and assumptions are made based on intricate calculations. Putting too much weight on any single aspect of Astrology is fallacy. If you're looking to the stars for guidance, keep in mind that a proper reading, such as your own unique astrological chart, is the sum of all of its parts.

If the following planets appear in retrograde in your birth chart they are indicative of a monumental happening that once occurred in a past life. Astrology suggests that you pay attention to the lessons that you never learned in the past and that you strive toward achieving these goals in current pursuits. Each of the planets represents a different lesson to be learned.

Mercury Past Life:

If Mercury retrograde is in your chart it's likely that you were once scorned for speaking out; perhaps your words incensed a riot. Mercury retrograde symbolizes that you are afraid to say the wrong thing and that you don't feel assured of your own intelligence.

1. That's a very interesting & useful way of thinking about those natal retrogrades.

Natally the U.S. chart had Mercury and Pluto retrograde (communication and power). Although I
don't know about the advice given at this link. However we DO indeed need to learn what true power is (unattached from ego issues) and from whence it comes.

With Pluto retrograde in your chart, you know what it means to be ostracized from the flock. At some point in your history you were forced to be the scapegoat for the community and you stood alone for bad deeds that perhaps you didn't even commit. You are familiar with being the apple of the public's eye one moment and then defending yourself tooth and nail the next.

This experience has left you very untrusting of the world around you. Remember that nothing in the universe occurs in a vacuum and that all bodies are connected. Therefore, if you don't trust in others you are also not trusting yourself. Believe in the people who have power over you, as they are sincerely looking out for your best interests.

----

And then there are progressions of planets (one day = one year) that can also turn retrograde.
The U.S. chart has 5 progressed planets in retrograde right now, for instance (mercury, mars, jupiter, saturn and neptune). I wonder how that fits into the past life theory, if at all. Or maybe progression retrogrades have more to do with current karmic lessons in our evolution.
In fact a lot is being written about the significance of the prog. Martian retrograde (which began last year).

2. 5 planets retrograde?! Wow.
If that's not a stern warning to America to learn our lessons and smarten up, I don't know what is.

3. Welcome MonteLukast! Yeppers....thems a lot a progressed retrogrades!
Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 02:10 AM by Dover
I didn't realize there were so many until just tonight when I pulled up the chart.

Well, I must say I'm glad to see it. Particularly that Mars retrograde. Our agressive blows
are being blunted by other countries every way we turn. Our hubris has been put in check.

4. Hi, Dover! When I clicked the link, it couldn't find the page. (It redirected...
me to the www.starpathvisions.com home page.

I'm going to keep looking into the retrograde issue, and looking for other interpretations. I've always felt that there was something that the retrograde planets in my chart were trying to tell me -- especially the Mars retrograde. Luckily, my Mars is in Cancer, so hopefully that keeps me from being too dangerous.

Thanks for the information about the US; I feel that there's so much that we as a country should be learning, and we simply refuse because of our arrogance. It really concerns me that we as a people are so reluctant to look deep within ourselves -- introspection is not something that we Americans value, in my opinion. :(

5. Sorry about that. Here, try it again.
I made it into a tiny url

Actually I just chose that site randomly from a google search of "astrology, america, progressed mars retrograde". I'm not sure it's the best one available. There are literally tons of sites
available on that subject, and I think Nancy also has written something about it at Starlight News as well.

6. From Dovers' Link... Thank you!
Extremely interesting, too bad those who need this information the most will be the last to heed it.

As America’s Progressed Moon and the World’s transiting Saturn both enter Virgo, the energy field directly opposite from and complimentary to Pisces late this year and all of next (and lasting for a full 2 + ½ years 2009-2010)- we will be confronting our escapism and cleaning our dirty laundry. We will be forced to account to ourselves and to all the world for our cherished lies and deceptions. And if we don’t, those lies and deceptions will rebound with all the force of Retrograde Mars upon us. America is turning against itself and its own People, it has become a spiritless Corporate War Machine running in overdrive, a runaway car without breaks careening recklessly in the wrong direction down a freeway flattening everything in its path. We the People, through our collective apathy and frustrated fears are fueling and driving this Killer Machine called America and if it ends up creating mass destruction around the Globe and slaughtering millions of creatures WE will be among those creatures. We shall then have cast ourselves as Negative Pisces Victims wasting away in a Land that imprisons us.

If we do not take things into our own hands this year and next, if we do not actively protest and put the breaks on our Rogue Empire by August 27, 2009 when transiting Saturn conjoins our Nation’s natal Neptune in Virgo we will find that the chance to do so has escaped us, that we have lost our freedoms and money and are prisoners caught within the Corporate Fascist Empire from which there will then be no easy escape. Should this be the case, as our Nation’s Progressed Moon aligns with that same natal Neptune in Virgo on June 26, 2010 we are likely to be drugged, genetically altered, and otherwise rendered docile and harmless captives of the Machine living under Martial Law. That’s what those ‘Detention Centers’ are threatening. Remember Hurricane Katrina, and the Federal Government’s despicable and ongoing mistreatment of the people of New Orleans. Is America a Living People, or merely a Corporate Empire? Do Americans really love the Land of their birth?

<snip>

If we are engaged now in a “War On Terror” against the People of Afghanistan and Iraq it is rooted in the endless war we have waged against the Native People and Land of America. Chiron serves to remind us that Aries war and Mars violence are endemic to the America of the “Declaration of Independence” because that “independence” was achieved by systematically slaughtering and enslaving Red Men. As we bear witness to our own destruction of ‘our’ Land, to our slowly dawning realization that we have desecrated our forests, poisoned our rivers, and created 10,500 radioactively contaminated sites all across America we must humbly acknowledge our National Chiron Wound in the 4th House of the Land. We have inherited the burden of our fathers’ ‘sins’ even as our children shall inherit ours. Our collective wound calls out to us from the deep red pools of Aries blood upon which the USA is founded. We must right our wrongs if we want to heal ourselves, if we want to live in balance with Land and Life, with all other Peoples on Mother Earth.

If our Mars Retrograde ‘blowback’ does not find us poisoned, enslaved, and slaughtered by the Corporate Government of our own making we will find ourselves inevitably approaching the year 2019. In that year, on April 7th in the month of Aries our Nation’s Progressed Retrograde Mars will oppose its Progressed Retrograde Chiron in Aries and, if we’re lucky, we shall have replaced our Corporate Government so tragically wasteful of Land and Life with a new and Greening America. But for now, I give you the words spoken by Black Elk, the Oglala Holy Man reflecting upon the aftermath of the Massacre at Wounded Knee:

"The Nation's hoop is broken and scattered.
There is no Center any longer,
and the Sacred Tree is dead.”

10. This is truly frightening.
It seems like every day we are moving more into fascism and away from the country we could be. I know our roots are laid in violence but it did seem like we were starting to change into a peace loving nation. Perhaps that was just an illusion and now the curtain has been pulled back.

I hope we get it together by August 27, 2009. ( Although I must admit to threatening to move out of the US if McSame is elected. It appears evident to me that all of this will certainly come to pass if we elect a third term for the Repugs.)

7. Thanks for posting this.
It is really interesting. I have four retrogrades and I found that what it says about them is generally true.

House 7 Gemini Mercury retrograde - Can't speak in public to save my life.

House 1 Scorpio Saturn retrograde - Absolutely no patience, I swear I am trying to learn. It isn't going fast enough though :)

House 12 Libra Neptune retrograde - Take control of creativity ( I am a painter that really has to push myself to do a painting.) Not addicted but worry about that because of family history. However, if lurking on DU and other political sites isn't an addiction it truly is avoidance of creativity. :/

The one I couldn't check on was
House 2 Sagitarius True Node

I am a Gemini Sun, Pisces Moon with some confusion about whether I am a Scorpio rising (or a Libra).

9. Retro planet energies can be interpreted as a "review" process
Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 11:30 AM by katty
in the current life cycle (even if you don't subscribe to the past life notion) - there can be more either 'self-loathing' or 'self-awareness and psychological cleansing' - depending on what you do with it and how you respond or just react to the the events of your life.

11. I am quite candid as well,
however, speaking in front of a large group is not something I can do. Put me in a small gathering and I will speak my mind.
