I know, I know. It's a lot to absorb. But I'm confident I'm doing the right thing. Wish me luck.

3. what does it mean to be an ex-feminist?
I'm envisioning a woman wearing a dress and high heels, pusing a vacuum cleaner, wearing a vacuous smile, brought on by too many martinis or pills to kill the pain.
One can be a feminist without buying into everything that some people believes is a part of feminism.

4. If you define feminism as simply blaming men for everything
then I could see why you are changing. There are no simple answers to life. And, as we are all one, it is important to acknowledge the role and importance of men in society. That being said, it is also important that both men and women be flexible in their roles. For example, for several years when my husband was ill and not on SSD, I was the sole breadwinner for the family. He "reversed roles" in that he did what household chores he was able to do. What I found important was to communicate to him how valuable this work was--and it was a relief not to have to come home and do laundry, dishes, etc--all I had to do was cook (an activity I love), and on days I was too tired, I didn't have to do that.

We know the world is changing--we're going from being Americans, Canadians, Germans, etc, to being citizens of the world. I am also seeing the start of a movement towards thinking of ourselves first as humans, then about gender, with roles defined not by sex but rather by circumstance. If we are indeed One, then this is the logical direction to go.

Thanks for humoring me.

Maybe I should have just stuck with the Jewel poem.

6. At first I thought, "Did she get some really good sex from a Fundie"?
Then I realized the odds of that were next to impossible. Perhaps a lobotomy or forced brainwashing at Dr. Rick's? Or a really shitty walk in spirit took her over (do they let Hitler and Mussalini do walk ins?) Then I remembered what day it was...

10. BWAH! (And you're right; good sex from a fundamentalist is a veritable impossibility.)
Hitler and Mussolini. Snerk.

7. You can claim to be a political heterosexist now.
How cool is that? All those years when I was out there saying "I am a political lesbian with an unfortunate fondness for male anatomy" are now behind me. Because of your ground breaking thought, I am now a "political heterosexist."

I feel a need to run the hoover. Can I borrow those pearls, June?

11. See, I thought the "giveaway" was the favorite books/movies part.
Edited on Thu Apr-02-09 04:45 PM by BlueIris
I hope none of you think I would ever want to read a book that claims men have a biological imperative to commit rape. Or that I have any desire to watch the film "Knocked Up." (Blech.)

13. Well, I agree
It's just that PAT BOONE and POLKA really, really got me laughing. I've had "April Love" in my head all afternoon.

Ha!! I actually know how to polka, sorta. It's good exercise. But I haven't done a polka in, uh, decades I guess.

12. And you know, it only took me like an hour.
Maybe 90 minutes. I didn't agonize over it for three hours like I did the one I pulled in '07 ("So, I got REALLY drunk/high last night").

This one was a little too convincing, though. (I think the feminist forum is still kinda pissed at me.)
