Hey all--
So we're on vacation in Florida. Greetings from expensive NON wi-fi! Heathens! :) But I just had to share this bit of a lesson in manifestation, because it sure bonked me on the head. I was concerned about spending a lot of money on this trip--it's inevitable; it's Florida, and we have a 5 YO. Disney, Universal, hotel, air, car, blah blah blah. But we bit the bullet and put it on the credit card (ouchie) because Spud's "other grandma" lives here and he hardly ever sees her. I really want him to get to know her. I tried really hard not to fret about the money.
Then, Monday night (day before we left), we got a phone call from Orbitz. Glitch in the system (yeah right)--hotel overbooked--they announced they're moving us to a different hotel for the first three nights (out of five). I pitched a fit (politely), and the Orbitz rep nervously said they'd call the hotel and then call us back. They never did. I hoped they had decided to try to bump somebody else instead. Yesterday, a few hours before our flight, I called the hotel just to confirm our reservation (I had confirmed the day before--before the phone call--but I figured Orbitz still might be messing with us)..."Er...just a moment..."
Ended up with a muckety-muck on the line who frantically explained the problem (I still didn't believe them--I suspect Orbitz pulls a fast one on people who book packages, but that's neither here nor there). I resisted. He explained some more. Upshot: The first hotel made reservations for us at another hotel ("It's very nice!") for the first three nights and then we could go back to the original hotel for the last two nights. UGH, I thought. What fresh hell is this, bopping from hotel to hotel and who knows what the replacement hotel is like anyway?
More frantic explanations. I listened--didn't much have a choice, really. The deal: the three nights at the other hotel would be FREE. Then we'd get a suite at the first hotel, but we'd only have to pay a regular room rate. What a strange way for the Universe to get us some cash back, but once I tweaked to what was going on, I decided to go with it. The new hotel put us in a bedroom/sitting room kind of accommodations, on the top floor of one of the towers, and the room is one of the ones that's just been remodeled.
Ya know, it ain't half bad. :D The lesson I learned? I guess it's to trust, relax, don't be so quick to assume a change always means a change for the worse. Or something. In any case, I am quite amused.
Okay, I'm off to go play with the kid for a bit while Mr. MG collects grandma from the outer reaches of suburbia. I'll check in later when Mr. MG gives up his 'puter again (the intertubes access only works for one machine at a time, apparently). :hi:
