Lotus Tarot website's interpretation of individual Tarot cards.
Edited on Wed Apr-29-09 10:04 PM by I Have A Dream
I've started to receive E-mails from the site lotustarot.com which contain information for individual Tarot cards. I thought that I'd post them here as I get them in case anyone else is interested in this particular person's (Alison Day's) interpretation of the cards.

I'm going to try to keep them in this thread so that they're all in one place.

I will be receiving a card a week, so it will give us time to really think about each one.

I'm posting the website as a thank you for the information:

1. "THE MOON"
Edited on Wed Apr-29-09 10:02 PM by I Have A Dream
THE MOON

When we experience such turbulent emotions, it is difficult
to believe that we could ever feel harmony and peace within
ourselves again.

Highly charged feelings cause havoc in our lives, and when
The Moon appears in your readings, you can be sure there are
issues in your life that are causing confusion and mixed
emotions.

When this card appears, it is suggesting you take a step
back and view your situation from a different perspective
and with a calmer logic.

However, The Moon does represent powerful feelings and it
isn’t always easy to gain clarity: we often can’t ‘see the
wood for the trees’. The path to clarity and understanding
is a challenging one, yet despite the emotional wrenches
you may feel, it is right for you.

For example, if you are in a situation where you need to
let go of a lover or partner for whatever reason, but
emotionally cannot summon up the courage to do so, even
though you know it’s the right thing to do, trust that the
new path you seek is right for you.

Often when a decision is very difficult and causes strong
emotional resistance within us, we allow our weaker nature
to rule. However, in many of these situations it is a brave
heart and clear mind that help us see through the fog of
unruly emotion and step onto our true path.

The Moon not only represents illusion caused by powerful
emotions, but also illusion or trickery created by other
people’s lies or misleading behavior. Therefore, when The
Moon appears in a reading, it’s a good idea to question
your motives and those of people close to you, and it is
best to refrain from making firm decisions until you know
and feel a sense of certainty about your choices.

The wan light of The Moon does in some way shed light upon
the right path for us, but because we cannot see clearly
in dim light we doubt ourselves and hold back from taking
the steps forward.

The Moon may suggest that your avoidance to take action or
make a tough decision about a certain situation is simply
due to fear of loss. Fear has much to do with The Moon, and
courage is always needed to conquer fear, so take your time
when The Moon appears in your readings and search for your
inner courage. With patience you will find the clarity you
seek.

2. "THE HIGH PRIESTESS"
Edited on Wed Apr-29-09 10:00 PM by I Have A Dream
THE HIGH PRIESTESS

When was the last time you went against your intuition or
gut feelings just to hear yourself say ‘I knew I shouldn’t
have done that, I somehow knew it wouldn’t work out’?

This gut instinct, intuition or 6th sense, whatever you
want to call it, is our spirit, our subconscious or what I
like to call our ‘authentic’ self speaking to us.

The High Priestess card represents this very intuitive
guide we all have within ourselves, and we can always call
upon her provided we have the courage to listen to her.

So often we take what appears to be the easy option, or we
remain in our comfort zone, only to later realize the
illusion. For example, have you ever stayed in an abusive
or unfulfilling relationship, despite your ‘intuition’
telling you that you are unhappy and should leave, just to
avoid being on your own?

Have you remained in a dead end job that brings no
satisfaction and a poor income, despite your ‘intuition’
telling you that you could do so much better for yourself
if you could find the courage to leave?

Fear of the unknown, fear of rejection and fear of
loneliness are, for me, the three greatest reasons why we
choose to be deaf or ignorant to our intuitive guide, and
wind up staying in relationships, jobs and situations that
we are far from happy with.

When this magical and enigmatic card appears in your
reading, ask yourself ‘what is the secret to finding the
happiness I seek?’ For The High Priestess is the keeper of
secrets, your secrets, and the greatest irony is that you
are the only one who can know the secrets she has to share
with you.

You must develop the ability to silence the noise of your
conscious fears, and allow your mind to be still and silent
enough for your intuitive guide or High Priestess to
communicate with you. Thus she will reveal the secret to
your own happiness.

The more you learn to trust your intuitive guide, the more
aligned you will become with your ‘true’ desires and your
‘true’ self. For example, if the quiet voice in your head
is telling you that starting an affair with your boss is
not a good idea, it may be wise to listen to it!

If that voice grows ever louder and more persistent about
something you are doing or considering, see it as your own
High Priestess imploring you to listen ... you need to pay
attention!

So, when The High Priestess appears in your readings, it’s
time to ask yourself how you really feel and think about
the issue or situation? Your conscious self must learn to
trust your intuitive self.

3. "THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE"
THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE

Sometimes we experience good luck and good fortune
unexpectedly, and when we do, oh how joyful and exciting it
is! Getting a phone call out of the blue from the person
you’ve fancied for ages asking you out on a date, winning
some money, getting an unexpected promotion and pay rise at
work, friends and family throwing you a surprise party –
all these experiences or surprises make us feel on top of
the world.

Conversely, when you hear through a friend that your lover
is seeing someone else, your bank surprisingly turns down
your request for a loan, your boss unexpectedly announces
you’re going to be laid off or you lose a loved one – these
experiences and shocks can leave us emotionally devastated,
feeling as though the world is somehow against us.

The Wheel of Fortune represents such unexpected turns of
fate and fortune. Sometimes the wheel will turn in your
favor and bring unexpected good luck and fortune, sometimes
it will turn against you and you will experience bad luck
and misfortune. However, the wheel suggests that these
turns of fortune are beyond your control, they are part of
the eternal movement and cycle of life.

When the Wheel of Fortune appears in your readings you can
expect an unexpected change in your fortune … so if you
have been experiencing a run of bad luck or misfortune and
the Wheel of Fortune lays in your near future, then the
cards are suggesting that it won’t be long before fate will
come into play and your luck will start to change.
Conversely, in the situation where the Wheel of Fortune is
ahead and things have been going great for you up to now,
read it as a warning that something unexpected may throw a
spanner in the works and bring a challenging time.

The appearance of this card in answer to a question about
what you should do about something or someone, can suggest
that, whatever you do, fate will determine the outcome.
However, if surrounding cards are negative, it could be a
warning that making the wrong choice could backfire on you.

Life has its ups and downs, and understanding and accepting
this helps us to hold a more realistic view of life itself.
Remember that the wheel turns up, just as surely as it
turns down ... it’s just the eternal and constant rhythm and
cycle of life.

4. "THE HIEROPHANT"
THE HIEROPHANT

Perhaps you’ve struggled to meet your parent’s expectations
for you, educationally or career-wise, because you simply
wanted to do something else? Perhaps your spouse or lover
likes you to behave in a certain way and you don’t like it?

The issues about what is right and wrong for you personally
are of greater importance when The Hierophant appears in
your reading.

For example, you may feel that fidelity and the tradition
of marriage is important to you, and your lover is prepared
to live together but not as man and wife, and this troubles
you.

Perhaps there are many feelings, views, opinions and
principles that you are having trouble expressing and
living by, and suppressing them is causing internal
conflict.

The Hierophant often represents a teacher or wise counsel -
someone you may choose to turn to for help and guidance.

If you are struggling to be true to yourself, it can be
very therapeutic to seek the comfort and understanding of
someone who you feel able to express your REAL thoughts and
feelings to.

Sometimes, we can feel trapped by someone or a situation,
but in reality we have created the situation ourselves by
denying what we really want or who we really are.

They say it can be difficult to see the reality of your
own situation from within it, so when this kindly and
spiritually comforting card appears in your reading, it
could be suggesting you seek out the help and guidance of
someone you trust to give you an alternative perspective.

It could also be highlighting the importance of being true
to yourself and not simply conforming to what others expect
of you.

We don’t always have the answers and we don’t always know
what’s best for us ... in such circumstances, when The
Hierophant appears in your readings, consider seeking
advice, guidance or counseling to help you find those
answers.

5. "THE HERMIT"
THE HERMIT

For me, the difference is solitude is something you WANT
and feel comfortable with, a peaceful, relaxing and
inspirational space, and loneliness is an UNWANTED
experience of being on your own.

I believe one of the greatest fears we have is the fear of
loneliness, especially the loneliness that we feel when
we are without a lover.

This fear traps many of us into unfulfilling or
destructive relationships, or leads us into pursuing the
wrong person just to AVOID being on our own.

When The Hermit appears in your reading, it may represent
the loneliness you feel at the time. And remember, it is
possible to feel more isolated and lonely in an unhappy
relationship or marriage than when you are actually on your
own!

If this is the case, the card is suggesting you take time
out for inner reflection. In fact, The Hermit is also known
as the Contemplation card in some Tarot decks. Why do you
feel lonely? What can you do to help turn unwanted
loneliness into welcome solitude?

Do you believe you can transform your loneliness into
solitude? I believe you can. Focus on contemplating
positive opportunities and outcomes. Spend your time
reflecting on past joys and accomplishments. Consider what
you can do with your life to create more satisfaction and
fulfillment.

The Hermit is saying ‘take your time and chill out, don’t
make any hasty or impetuous decisions, THINK about the
issues in your life carefully and from a more open-minded
perspective and with a more positive attitude’.

The card also suggests you should be patient, as it may
take a little more time before the period of unwanted
loneliness you are suffering will pass. Of course, it can
also mean don’t let the fear of loneliness hold you back
from making an important decision!

When The Hermit appears in your readings, don’t rush any
decisions, take time out to think about and contemplate
your options carefully, and if you feel lonely consider how
you can change the way you view your ‘loneliness’ to create
a sense of solitude instead.

6. "THE LOVERS"
Edited on Thu Jun-18-09 10:27 PM by I Have A Dream
THE LOVERS

The Lovers card is the card to look out for in your
readings; it represents a time of choice and dilemma that
could have a significant impact on your life.

You may be faced with a choice between suitors or lovers,
or whether to stay in a relationship/marriage or leave, and
when it comes to affairs of the heart, knowing which is the
right choice can be very difficult indeed.

The Lovers card signifies intimate relationships and
physical attraction to another, and it’s also about
struggling with temptation and establishing who or what you
really care about.

The emotion and desire associated with this card is
powerful and represents deep love. Sometimes it may not
refer to intimate relationships but to a force that draws
two entities together - people, ideas, events or groups.

The Lovers signifies a tough decision and is symbolic of
the need to overcome temptation when at a crossroads in
your life. This card suggests a need to maintain a firm
belief in yourself, and trust that your own moral values
and principles will show you the right path, even when
intoxicating forces are tempting you to take the wrong one.

Maturity and integrity are needed, as temptation to opt for
the ‘easier’ or ‘most exciting’ option may lead to hurt and
disappointment. However, The Lovers card suggests that
sometimes in life, taking a risk can promise greater reward
in love.

You may feel trapped and unhappy in a loveless relationship
or marriage and want to leave, yet you fear taking the
risk. However, letting go of a relationship that brings no
pleasure allows you to be free to attract new love into
your life. This is a risk that could well bring you
greater love and joy.

The risk or temptation that may not always prove so
positive is indulging in a sexual affair when married or in
a committed relationship. It’s true that sometimes we fall
out of love with our spouse or partner and in love with
someone else, and such choices can lead to new and more
fulfilling relationships, but such temptation can often
lead to trouble. Only you can be the judge of whether your
choices are right for you.

That’s easier said than done you might say!!! Of course
you’re right! That’s why The Lovers card represents a
dilemma, a time of choice that could have a major impact on
your life.

So when this card comes up in your reading and you have a
significant choice to make, look to your heart and core
values to help guide you to the right decision.

7. "THE SUN"
THE SUN

As I was relaxing, enjoying the warm sun upon my face today
I thought about the joy, energy and vitality that sunshine
brings.

The same vitality, joy and energy can be found with your
inner sun, and knowing how to draw on this energy can help
you dispel your own dark clouds caused by mixed emotions
and confusion.

The Sun is one of my favorite Tarot cards as it is so
positive and joyful, and whenever it appears in my reading
it conjures up hope and joy in my heart.

The Sun suggests happiness through enjoying time with
family, friends and loved ones, or perhaps holidays and
celebrations - if you’re not enjoying yourself in such a
way, this card is suggesting you should!!

The Sun generally indicates good news concerning children,
and can herald the wonderful gift of the conception or
birth of a much wanted child, so if you are hoping for or
planning to start a family, look out for this card in your
readings.

It is a card of good health, joyful emotions and lust for
life – for me it represents the very essence of life at its
best.

It is our ability to let our own inner sun shine that can
make such a difference; we are naturally drawn to people
who are happy and positive - those with a ‘sunny
disposition’. When you can transcend negative thoughts and
feelings, and instead think and feel more positively, it
creates a totally different energy.

Look out for when the sun comes up in your readings, and
when it does ask yourself:

‘Am I being positive and enthusiastic about my life?’
‘Do people see me as happy and joyful?’

When you have days where you cannot see through the clouds
of confusion or your heart weighs heavy with dark emotions,
look inwards and focus on letting your inner sun shine, and
dispel those negative thoughts and emotions.

8. "THE EMPEROR"
THE EMPEROR

Fear of failure is one of the most common reasons most
people are not getting what they want in life... if you're
afraid of failing, most likely you're not going to give it
your best shot, that's if you give it a shot at all!

The Emperor can represent a man of significance in your
life, such as a husband or lover, or perhaps a father or
close friend. In a positive sense, the card signifies that
this man will stand by you and give you the support you
need.

The Emperor represents a powerful ally, someone who can
influence people and events in their own favor, and is
often a man of authority or position such as a boss, or
professional advisor.

If the Emperor appears amidst more negative cards however,
it may be a warning that a certain man is being too bossy
or domineering towards you, or perhaps you are the one
exhibiting these ‘qualities’ towards another.

Taking note of the cards that surround The Emperor in your
readings can help you understand whether the man it could
be representing is a positive or negative influence on your
life.

Alternatively, The Emperor’s appearance in your readings
may suggest that it is time for you to harness this
somewhat ‘masculine’ power within yourself and express your
own authority.

If you are faced with a key choice or decision and The
Emperor appears, it’s probably time for you to find the
courage and confidence required to influence people and
events in your favor and ensure your success.

The Emperor is often associated with Aries, which is a
strong and assertive astrological fire sign.

So look out for this powerful ally in your readings, and
allow yourself to show your strength and assertiveness when
it’s needed.

9. "THE FOOL"
THE FOOL

Innocence and naivety are associated with The Fool,
for the young have no fear of new experiences or change.

As you grow older you can lose that childish innocence and
enthusiasm, and can become fearful and cynical of change
and new experiences.

The mind of The Fool is always open, an empty vessel
eagerly waiting to be filled with new knowledge. Any
experience, pleasant or challenging, is life knowledge that
he accepts as part of his learning.

The Fool does not sit on the fence waiting for life to come
to him; he always takes the first step himself. The Fool
does not analyze all the possible risks of a new adventure;
he learns as he goes along.

The fearlessness and sheer enthusiasm associated with The
Fool makes for quite a maverick character, and often this
card can signify such a person, male or female, may step
into your life.

It is your attitude that influences the choices and
decisions you make, and often your mind is so full of doubt
and fear that you become closed-minded to the possibilities
of change.

When The Fool appears, ask yourself how open-minded you are
being at that moment in time, how enthusiastic are you
about life, and do you desire new experiences and
excitement but fear taking that first step?

Any journey starts with the first step, and motivating
yourself to take it is the hardest part. The Fool
encourages you to discover your inner child and harness
that youthful enthusiasm to help you on your way to a new
life and future.

A time to exercise caution is when The Fool comes up as the
first card in a reading for you. You may want to question
your motives or judgment, since as this is the first card,
it can indicate folly. Perhaps you are motivated for the
wrong reasons, so look before you leap.

You will have to deal with many twists and turns, paths and
crossroads on your life journey and The Fool can help as a
sign post when you need to take a new path.

10. "THE STAR"
THE STAR

Gazing at a star-studded night sky is a truly beautiful and
hypnotic experience.

There is a magic and wonder about the stars and many of us
are familiar with the phrase ‘wish upon a star’.

What would you wish for right now? If you were to wish for
it, would you believe it could ever come true?

I wanted to share with you the magic I have experienced by
focusing on The Star card when it has come up in my
readings.

Wishing upon a star is at the heart of The Star card’s
meaning. It is a card of optimism, hope and unexpected
gifts. When this magical card comes up in a reading for
you it heralds a time of more positive opportunities and
happy outcomes.

This card is welcome almost anywhere in a reading as it is
a good indication that your wishes will be fulfilled,
sometimes not always as you would expect, and this card can
bring one or more unexpected gifts your way.

When it appears it can mean you are being too negative or
pessimistic, and it encourages you to have more hope and
optimism in your heart and mind, which is why I asked the
question earlier – 'if you did make a wish, would you
believe it could come true?'

I have wished upon The Star card many times and my
spirits always lift when it appears in my readings. I
recall in early spring of 2002 making a wish to be
given an opportunity to work with the Tarot with as many
people as possible, sharing a gift that was mutually
beneficial for my clients and myself.

It was a big dream and a big wish for at that time I
couldn’t see how I could achieve it, but I did BELIEVE I
would. Then in May of 2002, I met David, the talented
webmaster of Lotus Tarot, and as they say, the rest is
history :-)

The Star card has been a frequent feature in my readings
for most of the last year and I know why: because I have
received so many unexpected surprises and gifts, not just
in money and material things, but also friendships and
love.

If you haven’t taken much notice of this card before, look
out for it now, and when it comes up, make your wish!!
Remember, a wish made with hope and belief can bring so much
more power and magic to it.

11. "THE HANGED MAN"
THE HANGED MAN

They say that going back to someone or something from your
past isn’t normally a good idea, as though 'going back' is a
'step backwards'.

Although this may sometimes hold true, it certainly isn't
always the case.

Finding yourself in such a dilemma can cause a state of
impasse or limbo where you really don’t know what to do for
the best. This brings me to The Hanged Man card, a card
that normally indicates the need to make some kind of self-
sacrifice, or indicates a need for you to give someone or
something up.

We all know how very difficult this can be! ;- )

Contemplating how challenging such situations can be,
especially when it concerns affairs of the heart, inspired
me to write The Sign Post reading, which is now part of
the membership readings.

How do you know what or who you should give up? Are you
considering giving up the right person or the right thing?
Are you looking at your situation from the right
perspective? Perhaps all you need to ‘give up’ is a certain
attitude you have towards someone or something.

The Hanged Man doesn’t always mean giving up something
material or giving up a certain person. It can mean giving
up inappropriate or negative attitudes or emotions that are
creating a state of impasse for you.

If you feel confused, or fearful of making the wrong choice
or decision, because of mixed emotions or powerful and
addictive attractions, you can focus or meditate on Tarot
readings to help guide you to an intuitive answer.

When The Hanged Man appears you can be pretty sure he’s
saying ‘you’ve got to give something or someone up in order
to move on, or at the very least try and look at your
situation from a fresh perspective’.

In releasing ourselves from a situation that has become
stale, neutral or indeed negative, we can create a new
freedom. Limbo-land, or a state where you are lost without
direction, is not a great place to be.

So if you find yourself asking questions such as:

- Should I go back to someone in my life or let them go?
- Should I go back to an ex-lover or not?
- Should I stay in my job or leave to pursue greater goals?
- Should I end an affair?
- Should I leave my partner?
- Should I accept that my current business attempts are
failing and go back to a job?

you may find ‘The Sign Post’ and the ‘what should I let go
of’ readings helpful guides when you’re making a difficult
choice or trying to make the decision that is right for you.

12. "THE DEVIL"
THE DEVIL

When someone makes your heart beat faster or a favorite
pastime makes you feel high, it can be tremendously
difficult to resist.

Yes, we are talking about The Devil card and all the
temptation it can represent. This card is not entirely
bad, although it does mainly represent destructive forces
and unhealthy attachments.

On a positive note, The Devil can represent strong and
unbreakable bonds, so when it appears in a reading
concerning a love relationship, surrounded by positive
cards, it can be a good sign for marriage or a serious
commitment.

However, that is about the only positive aspect of the
card! Usually when The Devil card shows up in any of your
readings you need to question your motives. The card
represents addictions of all sorts, and seeking pleasure
and physical satisfaction even when you know or suspect the
experience may prove destructive for you.

Many who have emailed me, or requested private email
readings, have asked for guidance from the cards when
tormented by an addictive and destructive relationship.
Most of the time we know when something is bad for us, don’t
we? Yet it doesn’t make giving the pleasure up any easier,
does it?

When The Devil appears in your reading, stop and ask
yourself whether you feel in control, whether the emotions
and sensations you have concerning a particular person or
issue are positive and nurturing or negative and
destructive.

If you choose to ignore the warning The Devil card
represents, then you must accept the consequences of
indulging in relationships or passtimes that are unhealthy
or destructive. Perhaps you truly desire love, marriage and
your own child, yet you continue to have an affair with a
married person who won’t commit to you.

Or perhaps you spend money you can’t afford on shopping or
indulge in partying too much, which is causing financial
and health problems.

Whatever ‘addiction’ The Devil card may represent for you,
try to recognize it for what it is, and accept the
consequences of your actions should you choose to continue
with it or give it up.

13. "THE TOWER"
THE TOWER

There’s no getting around this one, The Tower is not a
welcome card in a reading yet, at the same time, it does
not warrant feelings of panic or fear. The card can often
indicate an event or period of time that could be
challenging and difficult but, as is so often the case, one
disaster can often lead to a new victory.

For example, an unexpected request for divorce from a
spouse could be devastating, yet I know of people where
such an experience led to them achieving more than they
ever dreamed of because they pursued a different path as a
result. Often, such an incident creates the freedom and
space for a new and greater love to walk into your life.

Many people have experienced bankruptcy, lost their homes
and material possessions only to change tactics and create
great wealth and success. The clearing away of the old
often makes way for the new.

The life lessons we learn from the turbulence indicated by
The Tower help us to rethink and to approach our lives with
a newfound wisdom so that we don’t make the same mistakes
again.

So, if The Tower appears in your reading, then there may be
something in your life that will challenge you or has
challenged you, and it will be up to you how you choose to
get over it and learn from the experience.

Sometimes The Tower may represent you as the person causing
the disruption. Perhaps you need to make choices or
decisions that are important to you but could cause
material or emotional loss. In such a situation, only you
can know whether you are prepared to pay the price.

The Tower can also serve as a warning that a certain choice
or decision could lead to disaster, such as, if you are
considering an extra-marital affair, leaving your job
without a new one to step into, that kind of thing.

Take heed when this card comes up, but don’t panic or get
anxious. Consider your options and choices wisely and if
you can avoid such chaos, great! If chaos is forced upon
you, trust that however challenging it may be, you can find
a way to move forward with your life.

14. "THE MAGICIAN"
THE MAGICIAN

The Magician marks a time for showing initiative and for
new beginnings and opportunities that show great promise
for the future.

When this card appears in your reading, it can indicate
possible opportunities. If you have the willpower and
determination to pursue your goals, you have every chance
of being successful.

The Magician is all about harnessing your own magic,
finding the charm and artful communication that can
persuade people and events round to your way of thinking.
You will need to think on your feet but with insight and
wisdom you can find a way to succeed.

For example, you may wish to charm a new suitor
romantically or convince a bank manager that your business
is worth backing, or even persuade your partner or lover
that marriage really is a good idea!

The cheeky and irresistible charm of The Magician can work
wonders, and sometimes having the ability to play the odd
bluff or to create an illusion to get a result isn’t always
a bad thing if it works out for everyone in the end.

If faced with tough challenges or obstacles, The Magician
is a good omen that your quick thinking and artful
communication skills will enable you to work around them
and stay ahead of any adversaries.

I always feel that The Magician has all the joyful and
youthful exuberance of The Fool but with the added benefit
of wisdom from experience. This card represents the early
stages or beginnings of an opportunity or phase of your
life so no result is definite. If, however, you can harness
the confidence and charm of The Magician, you are far more
likely to succeed.

The Magician may also represent a man in your readings if
you have asked a question about relationships, and in this
case, the card can be a little difficult to interpret
because of the illusionary, magical aspect to it.

The best rule of thumb is, if The Magician is surrounded by
positive cards, then this man could well be charming, fun,
great to be around, and very possibly quite eccentric!!

If, however, it is surrounded by negative cards, take care
as he may be a trickster or con man. This may refer to a
possible lover, business partner, work colleague etc. It
basically means be careful who you trust, as all may not
be as it seems.

The Magician is about the magic of possibility and how,
with creativity, enthusiasm and sheer willpower, we can
make things happen in our lives. With initiative and
careful insight you can harness your own magic and have the
wisdom to see through illusion.

15. "THE EMPRESS"
THE EMPRESS

The Empress is a card that signifies reassurance and love
reflecting the maternal aspects of the card. When she
appears in your reading, The Empress may signify your
desire to be a mother or the possibility of you being one
(if you’re female!), or the desire for the kind of love a
mother gives and receives.

She is a good omen if you are considering starting a family
or having more children. She can also signify the need to
focus on your role as a mother or your relationship with
your own mother or mother figure.

We all like to be loved and cared for and The Empress
signifies the comforting feeling and reward one receives
for loving and caring for those that are dear to you. As
an outcome, she is a sign that abundance and well-being is
on its way and that everything will turn out alright for
you.

Wherever she appears in a reading, think of the kindly
encouragement or loving support a mother gives to her
child, and know that someone in your life is there for
you. This may not always be your mother; it could be
another female relative, friend or even associate who will
show her love and compassion when you most need it.

The Empress also represents creativity and art, so when she
appears in a reading she can also be a good omen for you to
encourage any creative or artistic talents you have as this
may lead to future material and financial abundance.

She is the smiling face of encouragement and the warm
embrace of comfort, so whatever you may be considering when
The Empress appears, take it that you will receive the
support and help you require.

If The Empress appears in a reading surrounded by negative
cards, it may be that a female in your life is behaving in
an overbearing manner and it is important that you do not
allow her to bully you.

The Empress is multi-dimensional. She can represent your
desires and needs as a woman, she can represent other women
in your life or she can simply represent birth and
creativity. So when the card appears in a reading, take the
surrounding cards into account and also try to understand
it in relation to the particular question you have asked.

16. "THE CHARIOT"
THE CHARIOT

When this card appears in a reading, it often represents
challenges or difficulties that you must work through or
around, but with courage and determination the outcome is
often victory.

It often represents an existing struggle, one you have been
battling with for a while. For example, the card may
represent a destructive or unfulfilling relationship that
you have had problems letting go of. It may be that you
have been a housewife for many years and you don’t have the
confidence to get back into the job market, or perhaps you
have hit a glass ceiling in your job or profession and lack
the courage to seek success elsewhere.

Whatever the specific challenge or obstacle may be, you can
get over it if you find the drive and determination to do
so, since The Chariot represents self-reliance and decisive
action.

When this card appears in your reading, it is saying don’t
quit or give up. As hard as the battle may seem at times,
if you persevere, you can and will succeed. It is
important to accept and understand that sometimes we need
to change course or direction in order to achieve our goals
and ambitions. If something isn’t happening, however hard
you try, perhaps you simply need to change tactics to get
results.

The warning with The Chariot is not to allow your drive,
ambition and determination to turn to arrogance and pride.
It is not about bullying your way through life. This card
simply suggests that you don’t allow your ego to get in the
way.

If you feel that your life is not going in the direction
you would like it to, and The Chariot appears in your
reading, ask yourself ‘What do I need to do to achieve what
I want?’, ‘What do I need to let go of in order to gain
what I desire?’, ‘Am I on course or way off it?’

Quite often we consult the Tarot cards when we feel lost,
without any goals or direction. You would never jump into
a car without knowing where you are going would you?
Otherwise how would you know when you’d arrived at your
destination?

It is the same with life. There are always signposts along
the way and the Tarot cards can help you to determine which
signs are pointing you in the right direction.

17. "TEMPERANCE"
TEMPERANCE

The Temperance card can represent the peace and tranquility
we feel when our life is flowing calmly and happily in the
right direction. However, it can often represent a time
where we need to balance logic and reason against strife
and struggle in order to salvage some harmony in troubled
times.

It is your ability to weigh right from wrong, to balance
good against bad and to manage the volatile factors in your
life that determines how easily you can feel a sense of
balance and harmony in your life when the going is tough.

When the Temperance card appears in your reading, it can
imply that if you have been suffering a challenging time,
happier and more harmonious times lay ahead. Peace can be
restored and you will regain a tranquil normality to your
life again.

It can suggest that a greater sense of self-control is
required for you to cope with changing circumstances. And
for those who are suffering because of alcoholism, this
card is a sign that temperance and sobriety is needed.

The Temperance card is about moderation, going with the
flow and looking for solutions that will put an end to
conflicts and troubles, like pouring water over a fire to
put it out. The gentle flow of water can corrode giant
rocks in its path. Likewise patience and gentle persistence
can help us all to work through or around obstacles and
challenges in our path.

This card can also signify that spirituality may provide
comfort at a particularly difficult time, and when this
card appears in your reading, you can be sure that someone
out there is looking after you.

18. "STRENGTH"
STRENGTH

When the Strength card comes up in your readings, it can
represent the need for you to show courage in the face of
adversity and, more importantly, the courage and strength
to be true to yourself.

How easy it is for us to submit to our weaker nature and to
accept the unacceptable or to behave in a cowardly way and
refuse to stand up for what we believe is right or for what
we rightly deserve.

This card represents courage, willpower, mental strength
and self-belief, and it often appears when we are feeling
fearful or afraid of standing up for ourselves. Whatever
challenges you may have to face when this card appears, you
must draw on your own inner strength and courage to deal
with them.

It is a signal to ignore your insecurities and self-doubt
and also to fight back against any aggressors or oppressors
in your life, not physically, but with strength of
character and integrity.

Whether you are dealing with a lover or partner who bullies
or dominates you, going to your employer to say you are
being undervalued and are worth more, or refusing to be
tempted into behavior that you feel uncomfortable with
morally, you can harness your own inner courage and
strength to overcome such issues if you put your mind to it.

The Strength card is about proving yourself by improving
your own sense of self-esteem and self-worth.

Assertiveness, confidence and proactive action are all good
signs of harnessing your own strength and courage.
Cowardice, loss of nerve and inertia are signs that you are
yet to find that courage.

I was once told that the letters in the word FEAR stand for
‘False Evidence Appearing Real’, and the fact is that most
of what we fear never ever happens.

The combination of self-belief, determination and the
willingness to take a risk has helped me to conquer many
challenges in my life and to achieve some great results too.

Look for the hero inside yourself when the Strength card
appears.

19. "JUSTICE"
JUSTICE

The Justice card, needless to say, often represents legal
issues or events; most traditional Tarot cards feature the
sword and scales. When this card appears in a reading
concerning legal affairs such as divorce proceedings,
alimony payments or any legal battle, it is normally a
positive sign that any ruling will be in your favor.

The card can also represent contracts and agreements so,
again, it can be a good omen for business deals and
proposals.

It is a card that suggests you seek or give sound advice
based on cool logic and reason. In other words, it is best
not to allow unruly emotions to influence you in any
situation where legal issues are a concern.

In a situation where the Justice card is surrounded by
negative cards, it can mean that an injustice could be
experienced or that a legal ruling may go against you.
Tread carefully when such cards come up and certainly seek
wise counsel. It would be best not to make any hasty or
impulsive decisions when such a reading comes up.

In relation to business deals or proposals, negative cards
around the Justice card could mean you may be unsuccessful
in securing a deal or contract. Here too, it would be wise
to seek further advice and exercise caution.

However, there is a greater or deeper meaning to the
Justice card beyond its legal ramifications. It is deemed
a very karmic card, a card of adjustment and fairness at a
more spiritual level.

When it appears in your reading, it can mean that if you
have been the victim of ill will or misfortune, the wrong
will be put right and fate will turn in your favor. Issues
of honesty, integrity and idealism are paramount when this
card appears.

20. "DEATH/TRANSFORMATION"
DEATH/TRANSFORMATION

How would you feel if I was to say ‘Oh look, you are about
to experience a transformation in your life’? Would you be
as spooked as if you simply saw the Death card as your
outcome card?

I am in the process of creating the Lotus Tarot deck and I
will be naming this card ‘Transformation’ because I believe
it portrays the true meaning of this card far better and
without evoking the chills that the title ‘Death’ card does.

When the ‘Death’ card appears in a reading, the most common
thought is that it is predicting a physical death, that
someone is going to die. This, in most, if not all, cases
is highly unlikely.

I cannot speak for all Tarot readers, but I personally do
not use this card to represent a physical death. For me,
the Death card represents an event or series of events or
circumstances that may cause great disruption and possible
upset, but which make transformation in its many forms
inevitable.

I am not a medium or clairvoyant, but I do use the Tarot
cards to help give men and women around the world some
insights into their own situations and to look at their
lives from a different perspective. Let me give you some
examples: one of the greatest blows any of us can receive,
man or woman, is when we fall utterly in love with someone
only to be rejected and left alone. Many of you may have
had such an experience and it can feel like your world has
fallen apart.

Such incidences can create transformational change within
us, changing our outlook and our approach to love and
relationships. For example, if someone, who didn’t love
you, lets you go, it can open up a whole new set of
circumstances and opportunities for you.

There have been numerous case histories of people who have
been bankrupt and who have lost everything only to change
course and tactics and go on to achieve great success.

For me, the end of something, whether it be a relationship,
job, career or lifestyle is only the sign that it is time
for something new to be created. If I am no longer in that
relationship, I am free to pursue new love. If I have lost
my job, I am free to look for a better one and so on.

The tale of the Phoenix sums up the meaning of the Death
card quite well, where a bird dies in the flames only to
emerge and fly out of the fire transformed into something
far greater.

So don’t fear the Death card when it appears. Take it as a
sign that something in your life may come to an end. The
transition may be challenging but as the end comes to pass
a new beginning will present itself.

21. "JUDGMENT"
JUDGMENT

The Judgment card is often referred to as a time of
resurrection and awakening, a time when a phase or period
of our life comes to an absolute end making way for dynamic
new beginnings.

It may be that a long-term relationship or marriage has had
its time and whilst it may feel painful to accept this
finality, the Judgment card is saying try and accept that
this is a time of fast-moving, positive change and action
for you.

Whether it’s the end of a career, a time when your children
have flown the nest, or a turn of events that make you wish
your life was different, this card represents karmic change
and it indicates that bigger and better things are yet to
come into your life.

Quite often, fantastic events and opportunities follow sad
and difficult challenges and this card can represent any
events that may feel like ‘Judgment Day’ has come. Changes
that may be indicated upon the appearance of this card can
be significant, so this would not be a time for regret and
fear but a time for courage and rejoicing in what you have
achieved and what you are yet to achieve.

Your life may well pick up a pace when this card appears,
so whatever future possibilities are indicated in your
reading, these events may happen quite quickly.

If the Judgment card comes up in a reading about legal
issues, it is a positive sign that any ruling will be in
your favor. However, if this card is surrounded by negative
cards, it may indicate legal battles ahead and the
possibility of having a ruling made against you

In general readings, if this card is surrounded by negative
cards, it could be that the swift conclusions foretold by
the positive aspect of this card may be delayed. This can
mean that you are fearful of such significant change and
may be ignoring opportunities that may well promise a
brighter future.

I also feel that when this card comes up, it’s important to
use your own judgment wisely and not to judge yourself too
harshly. It is a signal for you to open your heart and mind
to accept that all things come to an end and nothing lasts
forever, yet for each ending there is always a new
beginning.

Embrace such significant and inevitable change and a whole
new world of opportunity can unfold for you – the Judgment
card is a calling for you to be all that you can be.

22. "THE WORLD"
THE WORLD

Whatever your dreams or ambitions, The World card can
herald the arrival of your heart’s desire - a time of
completion and fulfillment.

This is an especially wonderful card to have as an outcome
card, if preceded by other positive cards.

It is a card of triumph, recognition for all your hard work
and effort, or reward after a period of struggle and
challenge.

Respect and recognition is associated with the appearance
of this card, as it suggests that many people around you,
feel you deserve the happiness and joy the card represents.

The World card can also mean that the world is your oyster,
so it often represents travel, or suggests you broaden your
horizons if you are to acquire your heart’s desire.

This is such a positive card, that even the negative
aspect, normally indicated by preceded cards being less
positive or cards of challenge, simply means a period of
delay before the success you desire becomes manifest.

Are you living in the life you want, or do you desire to
step out into the ‘big wide world’ and seek adventure?

The World IS your oyster, so when you see this card in your
readings, remember to keep your heart and mind open to
greater possibilities.
