a customer has a big tree and she was saying she had a bunch of babies she was 'weeding out' of her flower beds

I told her to bring some to ME and she did!!!

I have some from a beautiful dogwood that I need to transplant or give away to a good home. Kornus cousa. Stunning flowers in late spring.

I bought a nectarine tree a couple years ago.
It's beautiful. Dormant in winter - yes even in our winter - then it is full of purple blooms before the leaves grow back in. Still haven't gotten any fruit off of it. Just little babies that fall off and dry before they grow. I have it in a rather large redwood container now, but may transfer it into the ground when I get my new garden in. (Right now it's in the planning stage :) )

4. I have an almond tree I got that way

I found a little almond seed sprouting in the corner of my yard with the almond still attached. I stuck it in some potting soil. That was three years ago. It's up to my waist now, full and green and healthy! The only thing is it won't have grafted root stocks like its parents may have had and may be suseptible to soil diseases, etc. Still, I think it's worth a try.

When I think about it, many of my plants are volunteers that I saved and transplanted. I have a whole hedgerow of privet that I created out of little volunteers that came into my yard as seeds from my neighbor's bushes and a half dozen pyracantha bushes that were volunteers that I moved. I also have four little liquidambar trees about three years old and waist high that sprouted in a far corner. I'm moving them to a place of honor this spring.

Hurrah for volunteers! More people should take advantage of them instead of throwing them in the weed bucket. Good luck!
