This hasn't happened to me lately, but the one game that I really wanted to finish but just never could was Call of Cthulu for the original Xbox. I absolutely loved this game right up to a part where I was on some ledge fighting a big tentacle monster, and kept dying and dying and dying. After about the hundredth time, I gave up for good. Up to that point, I would've called it one of the best games I'd played.

There were a bunch for the original Nintendo and Sega Genesis, too - actually, pretty much all of them. I wasn't that invested in the game experience with the early consoles though.

1. GTA3
Loads of fun, but that final mission was just too tough for me.

Half-Life: this must still rank as one of the best games ever, but I felt it kind of fell apart towards the end, and I lost interest somewhere in Xen.

Tetris.

9. I know what you mean about GT3
I'm that way with all of them, I have never beat any of them, I get about half way, and lose interest, and spend most of my time driving around, messing with the cops/aka wasting time.

2. Same here with Call of Cthulhu.
I luuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrved that game, but I just couldn't finish it. I tried FAQing it up--which I normally avoid--but the amount of effort involved just became overwhelming.

I still have the game and would finish it in a heartbeat...if I could. :)

3. The one that sticks out most for me is Wasteland
I freakin loved the game, tried to complete it several times but... I would get to this part, I think it was near the end. At some train station type of thing and whenever I boarded the train (I forget now where it was going to take me) the game would crash.

6. Now there's a classic!
Haven't even thought of that one in ages. I may have to play it again. :)

4. A couple: Tribes: Vengeance...I got to a part where I had to defend an outpost
from these tough as ships. Got my ass handed to me too many times, and I quit.

Others:

Clive Barker's Undying

Diablo 2 (I got to Hell in hardest difficulty, and then quit).

A bunch of the Commmand and Conquer Games.

Starcraft.

I really suck at real time strategies, but I like them. I just can't get anywhere. I have real trouble remembering short-cuts, and doing more than 1 thing at a time.

7. Residen Evil 4......
I had never played any of the resident evil games prior to playing this one, I then saw it at best buy for $20 so I bought it. I played it up until the part where you fight the first el gigante. I then bought another game and started playing that and I pretty much forgot I even had resident evil 4 and I haven't gone back to play it since, I probably will though someday.

8. Warcraft, the first one....
its mission 8 or so, where you are given a set amount of soldiers/wizards/catapults, and you have to defeat two Orc Strongholds, and you have no way in which to make/create more armies/soldiers, because you have zero peasants.

I always get stuck at that level, it is incredibly hard for me. By the time I move my soldiers into strategic places, the Orcs(usually their wizards) summon scorpions and start attacking me, and going back and forth from making my soldiers attack the enemy, or move into positions is incredible hard, because the AI of your soldiers is exceptionally stupid, and you have to make them do everything(unless they are getting directly attacked)....

Game was fun as hell, I still have it for the PC...just can't shake past that level...
