The Medicaid Kill-Off
The Medicaid Kill-Off
by Marta Russell

President George W. Bush and Congress slashed $10 billion from the Medicaid budget for this coming year. Medicaid is the primary public health care program for impoverished persons that serves over 53 million people.

The cut is clearly an attack on poor people, and it may wind up killing disabled and chronically ill persons before all is done. It is also a strike from those segments in our society who wish to dismantle the entire Medicaid system. Worse, it will force a rollback of disabled people's civil rights.

Psychologically destroyed, physically poisoned, emotionally scarred, mentally shattered, PTSD veterans and you may have a large part of those who will be affected.

3. INSANE!!! Let the Grandma's die???!!!
This is still the Administration's fault. Maybe we could find a way to count all the deaths Bush has caused by not doing his job and finding real soultions to the problems people face when he just slashes the budget.

We need a picture of a corporate exec on a jet for $ .01 a mile... this man needs a tax write off, but this woman "Mary Hall" had to kiss her grandchildren goodbye for the last time on July 31st!

Did she die? Did the media coverage save her?? Did the Govenor get at least her issue resolved?

DAY SIXTY: Interview with Mary Hall, TennCare Recipient
By Emma Goldman
Mary Hall is a heart transplant patient who received a new heart in 2002 after doctors discovered a tumor in her old heart. Mary is also a TennCare recipient. Recently she received a letter denying her health insurance under TennCare including the denial of medications which keep her body from rejecting her heart. Mary's medications cost her $25,000 a year and she cannot afford to pay for these medications. TennCare has notified Mary that she cannot appeal this decision. Mary has ten grandchildren and is due to be cut off her medications July 31st and will die soon after if her situation is not resolved.

Life and Death After TennCare: 'Without my medicines, I'm going to die'
By DAN MORRIS

Mary Hall's 54-year-old body stays on the go with a 21-year-old heart.

But her transplanted organ feels as if it skips a beat every time she thinks about Sept. 9. That's the day her TennCare health coverage ends unless some last-minute changes are made by state and court officials.

.......

Bredesen has since reached a tentative deal that would keep those 97,000 of the sickest TennCare adults from being cut, but only if changes in past court orders are approved. A hearing on the matter is scheduled to begin in federal court on Tuesday.

Hall is clinging to a hope that she will be among those 97,000 kept on the rolls, but no one has assured her.

I was on Tennessee Tenncare until recently.
Gov Phil Bredesen is a DEMOCRAT
at least he ran and was elected as one.
Tenncare was started by Democratic Goveror Ned McWherter
at the time of and in response to Hillary Clinton's call
for universal healthcare.
But two term Republican Governor Don Sundquist
in order to kill it subcontracted services to private insurance companies such as Blue Cross. They proceeded to bleed it to death.
Gov Bredesen ( who like many is a democrat in name only) inherited this situation and
says he now has no choice but to downsize it.
