1. Marjorie Main!
I never get tired of Meet Me in St. Louis or The Women, in both of which Marjorie Main holds her own within the respective ensemble casts.

3. Thanks for posting. Meet Me in St. Louis is just a great movie.
Never could stand Margaret O'Brien, though.

4. That's precisely how I feel.

I was interesting to see her take part in Robert Osborne's program featuring former child stars (Dickie Moore was another of the participants), but I don't have a burning interest in her performances, even in features like Our Vines Have Tender Grapes and The Canterville Ghost. And I cannot stand Tootie in Meet Me in St. Louis, though of course it's the way the part is written as much as it is the way Margaret O'Brien plays her. The supposedly adorable mascot of the family is a spoiled brat in my book. In fact both younger daughters really belong to the dark side, IMHO.

But I love Grandpa, and of course Judy Garland as Esther was just a treasure and got to sing some of the best songs of her career.

Interesting trivia tidbit: Years ago the National Portrait Gallery in D.C. mounted an exhibit on the American musical, and among the artifacts they brought in was the glorious red dress Judy Garland wore in the Christmas Eve party scenes. I couldn't believe how tiny the waist was on that dress.
