Whoo-Hooo just ordered a new guitar with found money.....
Just ordered a Gibson Les Paul studio fireburst with gold hardware. I always wanted a LP and I can finally justify it because I'm playing out so much. My main guitar has always been me Strat and using a Hamer archtop when I wanted the humbuckers. For full band gigs I would always bring the Strat, Hamer, and my Ovation Legend. It's time to retire the Hamer and move up. The price was right ($999.00) and that will give me a workhorse. I'm not into buying expensive guitars that I'm afraid to take out that's why I went with this version.
Should get it tomorrow and I can't wait. I just hope I get it in time to try it a little bit so I can decide whether to bring it to tomorrow nights gig. The only real hangup might be playing slide on it. I do the slide in Layla and since so much of it is off the neck in the area of the pickups that I need to be really comfortable where my notes are and that I hit them accurately.

1. I'm in love.
Well, I played the Les Paul at the gig and I couldn't put it down. I never played one before and as soon as I picked it up it felt like I've been playing it for years. Very comfortable, like butter and it is lighter than my Hamer. I didn't play the Strat all night and the slide on Layla sounded great. The only snag was the first tune as the volume level of the guitar was louder than I wanted...quick fix.
What's nice is that I a lot more options now having both guitars and can switch back and forth for the right sound.
Nice.

2. Good For You BR!
On the slide thing, remember that a Les Paul has a shorter scale than a Strat. So, the differences in movement for the high notes as you get above the fretboard are very tight. That might make it easier, since the slightest movement may get you where you want to be. But, it might be harder to stop at exactly the right place on longer glides.

Congrats.
