LAWTON, Okla. — Employees from a Lawton heating and air company found quite a surprise while working in a woman’s attic — a bazooka round.

The home was evacuated for several hours Friday while officers from the Fort Sill Emergency Ordinance Detonation team examined the object, which they determined was an obsolete, non-live round.

Lawton Fire Lt. Steve Thornton says the round had been in the attic for at least 20 years and likely was left there by the woman’s late husband, a retired military man.

Fort Sill officials retrieved the device and disposed of it.
