EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. – Col. Bryan Gallagher, commander of Edwards Air Force Base and the 95th Air Base Wing, died after collapsing in a base gym parking lot early Tuesday morning.
The base is now under the command of Col. Nancy Wharton, who has stepped up from her position as the base’s vice commander.
Three airmen discovered Gallagher, 46, unconscious near the base’s Rosburg Fitness Center at about 6:50 a.m. Gallagher was leaving the gym after exercising, according to 1st Lt. Bradley Kimberly of Edwards Air Force Base’s public affairs office.
At least one of the airmen who found Gallagher is a medical professional and began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. “Col. Gallagher received exceptional treatment and was handled by people who knew what they were doing,” Kimberly said.
“They worked very hard to bring him back.”
