Soldiers stationed in Japan conducted a 24-hour “day of reflection” Feb. 22 following a spate of accusations of sexual misconduct by U.S. military personnel, including one criminal allegation against a soldier.

The soldier, who has not been identified, was accused of attacking a Filipino woman at a hotel on the southern island of Okinawa.

According to an Army spokesman, the accusation was made Feb. 18 by an unidentified person in a phone call to the Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID), which then contacted the soldier.

“The soldier came in voluntarily to be questioned. He waived his rights,” Maj. James Crawford, public affairs officer with U.S. Army Japan, told Army Times, indicating that the soldier lives on post at Kadena Air Force Base on Okinawa.

Crawford said the facts surrounding the accusation are still emerging and that it’s not clear who made the phone call to CID.
