Dozens of Joint Service Combat Shotguns will be delivered to the Marine Corps in May.
The Corps will receive 500 M1014 Benelli Tactical Shotguns, which will be fielded to any unit required to use both lethal and nonlethal 12-gauge shotgun rounds, 1st Lt. Geraldine Carey, a spokeswoman with Marine Corps Systems Command, said in an e-mail.
The Corps chose the semiautomatic shotgun in November 2001 to replace four of its pump-action shotguns — the Remington 870, the Winchester 1200 and the Mossberg 500 and 590.
The shotgun features a telescoping stock, adjustable sights, a pistol grip and a modular rail system that allows the user to attach night or day sights and a flashlight.
Berretta is looking at ways to “further enhance the capabilities of the M1014 to better support the evolving mission scenarios encountered by the Marines,” said Elio Oliva, Beretta’s vice president of sales and marketing, law enforcement and defense division.
