BC-NC--Suicides-Silent March,0149

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — Marines at Camp Lejeune will hold a silent march to address suicide, the service’s third leading cause of death.

The march starts at 8 a.m. Tuesday at the Protestant Chapel and will finish at the Camp Lejeune theater. Eric Hipple, a quarterback with the Detroit Lions for eight seasons, will talk about his personal battle with depression and suicide at the theater.

The Marine Corps had a suicide rate of 16.5 per 100,000 last year, officials said. Only accidents and hostile action claim more Marine lives.

1. LeJeune marines
there was a time before when LeJeune marines were marched in training
into swamps and several drowned.

Pete Seeger wrote a song about it, a metaphor for the war in Iraq

"We're waist deep in the Big Muddy and the damn fool says to push on"
