An Okinawa-based Marine noncommissioned officer was sentenced to eight years in a military prison for the 2007 beating death of his 6-year-old daughter, authorities said.

Sgt. Bassa Cisse was charged with murder but convicted of the lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter in a general court-martial that concluded Oct. 1, according to Marine Corps Base Camp Butler public affairs.

He was also sentenced to a reduction in rank to private, forfeiture of all pay and allowances and a dishonorable discharge, Marine officials said.

Cisse, 33, had been in pre-trial confinement since Oct. 21, 2007.

His daughter died on Oct. 22 from a fractured skull and internal injuries suffered after she was beaten by Cisse a day earlier. The incident occurred at a family housing unit on Camp Foster.
