European edition, wednesday, October 29, 2008

U.S. military investigators and British law enforcement agents have yet to find an airman who escaped from custody at RAF Lakenheath, England, more than a month ago.

A nationwide manhunt was announced after Airman Jeremy Parrott sneaked away from his escort at the base hospital on Sept. 24. Parrott was spotted five days later in Brandon, a village about five miles north of Lakenheath, according to a base press release. The announcement stated Parrot — who does not have a U.S. passport — was likely on foot and without food or shelter.

But investigators have not released any more information regarding Parrott’s whereabouts since, and would not say whether the escort who was supposed to be supervising Parrott at the hospital is a suspected accomplice.

Air Force investigators are working with various constabularies, the equivalent of local police departments, in the East Anglia region, and authorities from the London Metropolitan Police and U.S. Marshall Service.

Parrott was convicted in July of two counts of possessing child pornography and one count of receiving it. The charges stemmed from a Web site he accessed that was flagged by federal investigators during a sting operation.
