El Paso Times

EL PASO -- A Fort Bliss Soldier charged with attempted murder escaped from custody at Fort Bliss on Wednesday, and officials were looking for him late Wednesday.

Pvt. Deandrez Robertson, 20, was under guard when he arrived at Fort Bliss from Otero County Jail about 11 a.m. to meet with a lawyer in preparation for his Dec. 19 trial on attempted-murder and other charges, post officials said. Post spokeswoman Jean Offutt said the incident that resulted in the charges occurred at Fort Bliss.

Robertson escaped from his guards after his arrival, but officials would provide no other details on the escape or the charges against Robertson, noting that "it could impact on the outcome of the pending trial."

E-mails were sent to people on Fort Bliss about 2 p.m. with a description, a photo and a warning that the Soldier was charged with attempted murder. It urged anyone who identified the escaped Soldier to notify military police. According to the e-mail, the Soldier's unit is Alpha Company, 121st Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.

He was described as a black male, 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 198 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, wearing an Army combat uniform.
