Reservist running for Senate slams gay claim
Reservist running for Senate slams gay claim
By Deanna Bellandi - The Associated Press
Posted : Thursday Jan 7, 2010 17:10:55 EST

CHICAGO — Republican Mark Kirk responded Thursday to ads from a fringe candidate in the U.S. Senate race by flatly stating that he is not gay.

The radio ad from rival candidate Andy Martin challenged Kirk to address rumors that he is gay. The ad ran over the holidays while Kirk was on active duty in Afghanistan as a member of the Navy Reserve, which kept him from responding directly until after his return home Wednesday.

Now back on the campaign trail, Kirk called Martin’s ad “completely outrageous and untrue.”

“It’s ironic that I was there fighting for his rights while he was using his free speech rights to say things which were untrue,” Kirk said.

A Chicago Tribune poll shows Kirk, a congressman from Chicago’s northern suburbs, is the front-runner in a crowded Feb. 2 GOP primary for President Barack Obama’s old Senate seat.

1. I heard Martin's second ad this morning.
Now, he's claiming that Kirk is a "de facto pedophile" because Martin thinks Kirk helped Speaker Dennie Hastert cover up the Mark Foley thing.

Someone at the IL GOP needs to get out the net...

2. If Kirk is the puke "front-runner" - why wouldn't we want him brought down by a
further-reich whack-job?

3. Good point
Unfortunately, there is no chance that Martin will defeat Kirk. Martin's noise pollution is only the desperate yammerings of a possibly insane, anti-Jewish nut job.

5. Hey! I'm a possibly insane, anti-Jewish nut job. I've been that way since my bar mitzvah.
Yep. Turned thirteen, looked around and saw the hypocrisy masquerading as (my) religion, and have been happily agnostic-becoming-atheist ever since.

That is not to say that there are no good messages coming out of religion. I just found it too hard to wade through the bullshit to find the lessons that help one be a better human being.

4. I'd prefer campaigns where the truth prevailed...
no matter what part of the political spectrum the candidate is in.

Your idea is a large part of what is wrong with politics.

6. So would I. A debate of ideas, based in logic and reason and good-will toward humanity. But that
is just not gonna happen until things change, drastically, in this country.

We are in a time of political warfare that has been brought about by the pukes and their minions on the reich. Currently, it is not possible to argue policy reasonably with any of them.

Thus, we are left with a situation where we can either (a)try to resurrect a pattern of behavior long dead or (b)recognize that it is a different world than that presented in history and political science textbooks. Willingness to swallow the former and reluctance to accept the latter WILL lead to further misery for all of us (except, of course, those who profit from the status quo.

are not the only ones with dirty hands on this issue.

If you want to seize the moral high ground, you better ensure your footing first.
