Norwegian gunman's military past
I'm not sure if this fits in this forum, but I guess here are enough people with knowledge.

I was reading an article on this guy and they claimed he just had ordinary national service. I'm thinking of a draftee when I read something like this.
But they posted pictures of him with a couple of medals, and one in a wet suit that reminds me of Navy Seals.

Does anyone know how to get more info on his medals, patches, rank or unit?

Along with the farm, he also appears to own a flat in Oslo. Breivik had no military background except for ordinary national service and no criminal record.

1. I don't think that uniform is regulation Norwegian Army,
based on a Google search. Further, the arm patch looks bogus to me. I suspect this is costumery. The second photo, too, looks like amateur hour.

4. Yeah, but...
that doesn't mean this nutjob has legit patches, insignia or fruit salad on his uniform.

3. I agree
I've spent a few minutes looking for matches on his dress blues, and nothing appears legit. Offhand, I'd say he's just playing dress-up, which is a common pastime among RW assholes.

For those unfamiliar, that's Mike Gallagher - asshole RW radio talk-show host & chickenhawk extraordinaire.

5. It may be some organization he belongs to that pretends to
be military in nature. Some of those have uniforms and the whole schtick. I just don't know. There are dress up quasi-military groups in the US, too, complete with uniforms, ranks, etc. All so the people in them can pretend to be legitimate.

9. Ribbons look american
Edited on Mon Aug-01-11 01:59 AM by Angleae
I see what looks like a legion of merit, bronze star, navy cross, purple heart, and air force basic training among them (and highly out of order).

10. The guy is a fucking douche... Here is what I could find on the (sic) uniform.
As historic NY has already pointed out. The blouse is indeed from our Marine Corpse.
The Norwegian Army blouse has eight buttons, this one has 7.

The Red Crosses on the collar are Knights Templar crosses and not part of the Norwegian uniform as is the patch on the left sleeve. The patch is the badge of the Justiciar Knight. The three symbols on the forehead of the skull represent Islam, Communism and Fascism. A Star and Cresent, Hammer and Sickle and a swastika. The same patch is on his wet suit on the chest.

The braiding is something more commonly seen on Norwegian military advisers.

I cannot make out the shoulder badges.

The belt looks an awful lot like part of a NJ state police uniform. It is a Sam Brown Belt, however its size and construction seems to me to be more of a duty belt than a dress one. Notice the size of the clasp where the waist belt meets the cross belt.

Ribbons from what I can identify...
UK Distinguished Service Order - Far right, 3rd from the bottom
UK Royal Navy Long Service & Good Conduct - Far Right, 2nd from the bottom
USCG Arctic Service Medal - Far Left, 3rd from the bottom.
Norwegian Medal for Heroic Deeds(absent medal, just the ribbon) - Far left, 5th from the bottom
Norwegian Medal For Rescue at Sea - Far Right, 5th from the bottom
Vietnam Service Medal - Bottom Center

Knight of Malta cross - Leftmost medal
Justiciar Knight Military Order of Martyrs - Middle Medal
I cannot identify the last medal.

I'm done looking at this piece of shit.
