The Army’s acquisition chief has resigned, officials announced Friday.
Claude M. Bolton, assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology, resigned after six years in the job. Army Secretary Pete Geren accepted Bolton’s resignation on Friday. Bolton’s resignation is effective Jan. 2.
“I sincerely appreciate the efforts of our military, the civilian employees and contractors that have supported our mission during the past six years,” Bolton said in a statement. “Their dedicated efforts are a tribute to the strength of our nation and I am honored and humbled to have served with them.”
In a statement, Geren thanked Bolton for more than 38 years of service to the nation. “Claude has been a valuable leader in Army acquisition for the past six years
his presence will be deeply missed,” Geren said. Bolton was sworn into his job Jan. 2, 2002, and is the longest-serving assistant secretary of the Army for acquisition, logistics and technology.
During his tenure, Bolton guided the transformation of Army acquisition and allowed for rapid fielding of critical equipment and technology. He also led the Army’s modernization efforts, including the further development of the Future Combat System and the restructuring of Army aviation acquisition.
Bolton is a retired Air Force major general, and he has served as an Air Force and Army executive.
