What the hell is going on?

http://www.boston.com/news/local/politics/primarysource/2007/12/gore_has_no_pla.html

"Gore has no plans to visit NH this month

A spokeswoman for former Vice President Al Gore said there are no plans for him to come to the Granite State this month despite a report last month that he and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger were going to hold an event somewhere in the state on climate change.

Gore spokeswoman Kalee D. Kreider wrote in an e-mail "there is not a global warming event planned with Mr. Gore in NH in December" to Primary Source assistant Brian Lawson."

More at link..but there is only one source for this, and it's a blog. Not so sure about it.

1. Stranger and stranger
I heard the same thing from my NH contact. He didn't source it for me and I'm waiting to hear more back from him. He noted in his initial e-mail to me that the Gore spokesperson said there was nothing to cancel because there had been nothing scheduled in the first place. That seems a bit bizarre since there was an AP report about this forum a couple of weeks ago (based, apparently on something McCain had said to a reporter's question, and then follow up to both Arnold's and Gore's people who basically wouldn't say anything. I guess I'll wait a bit longer to get further confirmation, and find out what this does to some events I know had been scheduled in NH to coincide with this forum. I'll let you know as soon as I know anything firm.

3. In google news, the latest mention of a climate change debate
is on November 30, 2007:

http://origin.mercurynews.com/politics/ci_7554222?nclick_check=1

In the article, it states, "Next month in New Hampshire, two leaders on climate change with undeniable star power - Al Gore and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger - will try to lure candidates of both parties to a forum on energy and climate change."

There is another article, dated November 15, 2007:

http://www.sacbee.com/111/story/495694.html

This article is titled, "McCain accepts governor's invitation to debate global warming in N.H."

It would seem that if the debate has been canceled or has not been able to be scheduled, then a formal announcement would have been made.

Does anyone feel like their heads are being played with? Even on this forum?

5. I could not agree more.
My husband is irritated because I keep asking him what his opinion is on what could POSSIBLY be going through Gore's head. We almost had an argument about it last week, and had to get ourselves out of our own heads for awhile. Sheesh.

6. I hear ya.
My husband laughs as kindly as he can. Humors me he does. I do think (ok, hope) that we will be justified in our support in the next month or so. I don't know if I will be able to stay at this level indefinitely. If I am still sitting on the fence and Gore hasn't said word one by March, I'll be certifiable.

7. Just a bit more on NH
Here's the latest I got this morning from my contact in NH. It really doesn't shed any new light on what was, apparently, a phantom forum. Once again, though, let me remind all who are looking at this, and perhaps can spread the word to their own circle of like-minded folks who want Gore to run, that you can donate to the (still to remain unspecified) NH effort at ActBlue: https://secure.actblue.com/contribute/entity/18577. All $$ donated will help publicize the effort in NH. And, since the "forum" is not happening on Dec. 19, watch for a significant announcement from NH on Dec. 17. At that point, all will become obvious. I really don't want to sound too mysterious here, but the NH coordinator has set that date to take advantage of all the Gore publicity that will come next week with his receiving the Nobel on Monday (with an hour interview/Q&A on CNN at 11 EST) and then Gore's appearance at Bali on Dec. 14. It's anticipated there will be a lot of Gore news, then, over that week-end. The news on the 17th will try to piggy-back on all of that.

The message below was posted to the Gore netroots blog as an
explanation of what happened to the Gore/Schwarzenegger New
Hampshire Global Warming Forum.

===========================================
Gore's New Hampshire Global Warming Forum: the Back Story.
===========================================
"It was never scheduled therefore it wasn't cancelled." That's how
Kalee Kreider, Gore's spokesperson, explains how the New Hampshire
Global Warming Forum became a "non-event".

In early November, it was implied by some anonymous staffer in
Nashville that continued ballot initiatives could jeopardize the success
of the New Hampshire Forum itself.

In fact, in the days following the leak by McCain, no details about
the New Hampshire forum were revealed. No organizations in NH were
contacted to become hosts. Despite repeated efforts, there was never
any confirmation that the Forum would even take place. Schwarzenegger,
apparently, couldn't get any other Republican candidates to agree to
participate. McCain then began running radio ads in New Hampshire
tauting his conversion to stopping Global Warming.

When pressed yesterday for an explanation, Kreider continues: "I have
been a bit busy with the Nobel, the Bali treaty talks, the energy
bill, and the Lieberman Warner bill." In other words, why waste time
with an explanation.

9. A bit more on the phantom forum
Just got this link (http://www.latimes.com/news/politics/la-na-global9dec09,1,2948093.story?coll=la-politics-campaign) from my NH contact. Basically, the story says that McCain's disappointed because he thought the global warming thing would play well for him in NH and would separate him a bit from some of the rest. Brief mention of the Democrats, but the story was mostly focused on Arnold and how he wanted the Republican candidates to state their positions on this issue. There is some mention that they (Arnold and Gore) might still try to put this forum together sometime in the future, but I would doubt that it will come together once the super Tuesday primaries are over. No gain for any particular candidates at that point.

10. I read that article earlier
The excuse for the failure, according to McCain, was a lack of participation from other candidates.

That statement is scary as hell. The candidates do not want to participate in saving our future?

Damn. Damn. Damn.
