"Every educated American should read and absorb The Credibility Project trifold brochure. It is that thoughtful and important."

-- Adam Siegel, Daily Kos: State of the Nation

We are happy to report that CFI’s “Credibility Project” commissioned by Toni Van Pelt at our Office of Public Policy in Washington, D.C., has captured the attention of influential people across the country, including scientists, lawmakers, and the media.

Coinciding with the kick-off of CFI’s annual Civic Days in the Capital, the findings of the Credibility Project were presented to the public at a successful press conference held July 17 at the National Press Club in Washington.

In the days following the press conference Civic Days participants fanned out across the Congress lobbying and presenting the results of the project to their Representatives. OPP Policy Director Toni Van Pelt observed that "This was clearly the right study at the right time."

Subsequent to the press conference, Ms. Van Pelt and OPP Science Advisor Dr. Stuart Jordan met for over an hour with the senior policy advisor to House majority leader Representative Steny H. Hoyer (D - MD) discussing the possible impact of the Credibility Project. Dr. Jordan noted that "A major political battle is clearly unfolding over the energy and climate change legislation already sent to the floor by the House Energy and Commerce Committee." This bill, H. R. 2454, is now being examined by the OPP.

Indicative of the general reaction of those following the OPP press conference and this legislation, Dr. Jay Gulledge, senior scientist and program manager for science & impacts at the Pew Center on Climate Change has contacted Dr. Jordan and expressed a desire to exchange information on this critical issue, a follow-up that is currently in progress. There will undoubtedly be further developments.
