Death of a 32-year friendship because of religion
Edited on Mon Sep-13-10 10:38 PM by Holly_Hobby
She moved to rural TN from my big-ish blue city. The RW Fundies have taken control of her common sense. I asked her nicely to stop sending religious emails, because I don't believe in magic. I told her I don't want to be saved. She told me I'm going to burn in Hell.

I'm very sad. She's no longer the person she was. Oh yeah, and she's gay. How she can embrace a religion that thinks her 30 year relationship with her partner is an abomination?

1. I'm sorry to hear about your lost friendship.
The fundamentalist tree sure produces some rotten fruit.

2. Expect that relationship to break...
If she continues on this path. Unless she's coming up with some rather bizarre ways to rationalize it all.

3. it's one thing for a gay person to join a liberal church
like the UCC, or local gay-friendly churches. But full-on fundie?

I'm sorry it ended up like this

5. Sorry for your pain. And understand...
At least as much as anyone can understand a loss like that.

I may understand a little better because I seem to have pissed off an old friend in a similar way, not long ago. I grew up in Fundieville (South Carolina).

He emailed me, knowing I'm a big history geek, and gave me a link he raved about. Subject - the American Civil War.

The site not only had a strong historical-revisionist Fundie pitch, but also wandered into neo-Confederate BS. The Civil War was fought for state's rights not slavery, bla-bla-bla.

I emailed him and, being as polite as I could, told him I didn't care for that sort of thing.

Haven't heard from him since.
