Billie Piper to leave Doctor Who
Billie Piper to leave Doctor Who ;(

Billie Piper made her Doctor Who
debut in March 2005

Actress Billie Piper is to leave Doctor Who at the end of the current series, the BBC has confirmed.

But the corporation refused to comment on reports that her character, Rose Tyler, would die in the final episode.

"It has been an amazing adventure and I can confirm it comes to an end, for now at least, as series two climaxes," the former pop star said.

Writer Russell T Davies said the Doctor Who team had created "a stunning exit" for Piper's character.

"The Doctor Who team have had a whole year to plan this final scene," he said.

1. Seems to be a pattern developing here
at the end of each season a major character leaves.

And this is a bit disturbing:

"The series two finale, entitled Doomsday, sees Rose and the Doctor, played by David Tennant, caught up in an invasion that threatens to destroy modern-day Earth."

Again?

5. Doctor Who always had lots of characters coming & going.
We're on ten (11 if you include the TV movie) doctors? And how many assistants?

Did you expect William Hartnell to still be the Doctor? Or Patrick Troughton? John Pertwee?

But whether the characters and the actors come and go, you got to admit it's not bad for a 43 year old TV show now.

Mark.

7. Not really 'again' for modern-day Earth... Earth, naturally, but not
modern-day Earth.

The current part ("Army of Ghosts") is getting high reviews... but many on the forums I frequent rate them all as "5/5" anyway. :eyes:

What is disturbing is the Earth-centric nature of the new WHO in general. RTD talks of taking risks, yet I've yet to see anything risky - especially compared to the risks taken in the show's original 26 year run. :(

8. I never watched the old shows much
Did they do a lot of 'off Earth' stuff then?

9. With one noteworthy exception, very often.
The show did occasionally have Earth-based stories... (I'd say, averaged out over the 26 years, the ratio of alien-based to Earth-based stories is 60:40...)

But the 2nd Doctor was caught by his own people and sentenced to a forced regeneration and exile on Earth.

(the exile was rescinded 3 years later, but the third Doctor was by and large Earth-centric...)

2. Thank goodness.
I'm not her biggest fan.

He needs an assistant that can hold her own instead of the "Help me Doctor" attitude that her character has.

FWIW-Leela was my favorite assistant. Now that was a woman who didn't take any crap.

3. Same here.
Too much flip-flopping between "I'm a below-average intelligence pretty girl" and "I have wisdom and appreciation for knowledge beyond my years." The Tenth Doctor should have left her on Earth after The Christmas Invasion, IMHO. :)

4. She's gotten better
She really took command in the Satan's Pit episode. She started off kind of shaken and unsure of everything in the first season, but in the second season she's starting to show her experience. She still looks up to the doctor of course as he's not only her friend who she has STRONG feelings for, but he's her lifeline to her own world. IF she loses him, she's stuck.

Yet In the past few episodes you really see her being proactive. Getting involved. She's asking questions, going off on her own, taking charge. It's a nice character development I think.

Plus I like that she's a pretty girl on a television show and she's not a size 0. She's gorgeous and real and doesn't look like the first monster could pick her up and snap her in two. That's important I think.

I liked Leela too, btw. One of my favorite all time companions. It was a nice dichotomy with her and the Doctor. high tech and low tech teamed up.

6. Y'all missed the important part of that...
"I can confirm it comes to an end, for now at least, as series two climaxes."

Stand by for a roller-coaster ride... series 3 is gonna twist your minds...
