Just a hypothetical here. You're lost in the deep woods, and may be facing dangerous wildlife and hunger while hiking your way to safety for an unknown number of days. Any thoughts?

I'm thinking maybe a Springfield Armory M6 survival combo rifle with .22 Hornet and a .410 shotgun. Winchester makes some heavy-hitting slugs for the .410 that would give dangerous game something to think about, nearly 800 foot-pounds of energy. The shotgun also allow birdshot for hunting game birds, and the .22 Hornet give you some reach to take small game like rabbits.

Another possibility is a Ruger Single-Six in .22LR/.22 Mag and a Ruger Blackhawk in .357 Mag, one on each hip like a cowboy. :-) One for hunting small game, one for hunting large game and/or self defense.

1. Of the guns I own,
I'd say my SAR-1. It's the only gun I own that I'd still be sure of working if it were dunked in the mud several times.

I wouldn't want to fight a bear with it (give me a bigger caliber for that!) but it'd suffice for most everything else, I think.

Expanding to guns I don't own, your suggestion of a .357 makes a lot of sense to me.

6. Just 2...
My Beretta in .40 S&W, and my 17hmr.

Neither would be as effective on dangerous game as something larger, but I think between them and usage of my brain, it would be plenty, assuming I had sufficient ammo.
