money raised that came in right before the convention acceptance speech? And that the moment he accepted the nomination he was obliged to only use the federal dollars?

And for those harping about that Kerry should have ran a 50 state strategy, they should take it up with McAuliffe and Bill Clinton who came up with the targeted state deployment strategy, just as used by DNC before 2000, too.

A 50 state strategy has to be built and constructed for the FOUR YEARS BEFORE the election. What a pack of dumbasses. WTF do they think Dean is doing the past two years? He's doing HIS DNC JOB. He's not doing the next Dem nominee's job - the next nominee isn't even KNOWN until spring 2008.

I'm going to remember that when, say, an Edwards supporter puts up a diary but was gracious in other ways in the past, that I'll return the mojo back. I also think the rec'ers are potential persuadeables if they're criticizing Kerry (not the haters), yet interested enough to read and rec a diary about him.

We shall see.

Anyway, I really want to put this whole thing to rest. Here's hoping this is the last word on the matter. 2006 is what it's about.

Mass -- saw your comment. Acknowledged that we shouldn't waste any more time on this; still, I feel one rec'd diary with Kerry's rebuttal won't hurt our '06 efforts.

I recommended your diary because you posted the truth and I could not agree more with what you posted.

However, at some level, this story only lives because people speak about it. There is no there there and most people know that. Most blogs have simply ignored it (mydd is the most perfect example. They are supposed to be the offended party, except that they never spoke about this story and are apparently not offended by David Wade's comment).

It is difficult because we want to answer. It is only natural, but the attack has failed so clearly that answering could do more harm than good sometimes.

18. I think in this case it helped -- did you see comments from locals

who don't even support Kerry but were truly amazed at how much he did? Now the word's out, and the smear has failed. Plus, I do think the diary was newsy because it contained a new interview done by a blog, not the MSM, so that's actually the main reason it made the Rec List.

So I don't regret the diary at all, but I'm certainly not going to do another one. I'm done with the topic because I think it remains abundantly clear that more people than not know that Kerry has done an absolute ton for '06 candidates. I would have preferred after the election to discuss this, but that's not the cards that were dealt here. Now it's done, and people know.

I do make an exception for beachmom's diary, though, because it had the key difference of actually being a rebuttal from JK himself, posted by a MA blog that is not known for being Kerry friendly. It was an important perspective that hadn't yet been introduced into the debate so I think her diary was good to get out there.

That said I do agree with your broader point and think that once beachmom's diary settles down we should let the issue be. No sense giving it more airtime than necessary.

was not JUST about campaign $$. I think it was smart to post it - people who are feeling hostile toward JK right now are curious about the subject. Hopefully they'll listen to the whole file or read the transcript and, you know, learn something about JK's committment.

Even the tone of the interview tells something. It was an interview, but very low key and conversational. The distance Learning video had the same serious/ friendly/ open/ respectful feel that I haven't seen as much with other interviews. There was a real sense that he wanted to know about them rather than either use them to get a message out or to be able to say I talked to bloggers.

being fucking assholes, and they know they're being fucking assholes. This has nothing to do with the money and everything to do with their belief that Kerry's efforts might make the efforts of the candidates they support look half-assed. If they were really interested in supporting Democrats, they would be lauding Kerry for his efforts. They're not even acknowledging that he's given the most in terms of fundraising and campaigning.
