Max Cleland's LTTE in the WaPo

Still Fighting the Good Fight

I strongly object to a Democratic consultant's assertion in "Al Gore, Rock Star" that past presidential nominees, particularly Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), are considered "pariahs."

Max 'gets it'. This is what all Dems should do when Dems are attacked.

It is great, isn't it. Shame that all Dems can't do the same.
But we can always count on Max to do the right thing.

6. Great LTTE

Many Democrats, including this anonymous Democratic consultant, could learn a lot from Max. Last fall, we heard the orchestrated campaign that Bill Clinton "taught Democrats to fight back", which ignored that Gore, Kerry and others never stopped fighting back. A more reasonable (though less successful as we are prematurely in 2008) campaign would be to get Democrats to support or at least not attack strong voices in the party.

It was really nice seeing them together on the video of the Hidden Wounds documentary. Max's speech was fantastic, but what I liked almost as much was the short conversation between Kerry and Max when Kerry wheeled him off stage and Max's mike was left on. These are two heroes.

For the way he's kept fighting for his country in the last few years. If you can judge a person by their friends, having Max as a friend says so much about JK.

negatively on other Democrats. This is the kind of nonsense that has to stop.
