Teresa Heinz Kerry hasn't lost her outspoken way
Isn't it refreshing that JK doesn't have a problem being married to a strong woman who thinks for herself. As opposed to *'s Stepford wife, Laura.

Teresa Heinz Kerry hasn't lost her outspoken way
By JOEL CONNELLY
SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER COLUMNIST
Monday, March 7, 2005

What made Teresa Heinz Kerry so refreshing to some voters, and threatening to others on the 2004 campaign trail, is summed up when THK talks about her speech to last year's Democratic convention:

"Nobody told me what to do," she told a Saturday fund-raiser here.

The implicit afterword: Nobody better try.

1. she's a wonderful woman
Coincidentally I was just reading a cover story about her in an old Newsweek from last March. She's such an interesting and accomplished person--and I think JK is really fortunate to have her around!

She shouldn't apologize to no one for speaking her mind. :)

4. Great to hear from her.
Thanks for this!! Hearing Teresa unbowed is such a boost! (I'm not sorry to hear what she has to say about a 2008 run, either!!)

5. I love that Lady
Teresa resists being categorized and filed away. She stubbornly insists on being herself. I like her very much. I am relieved to hear that she is doing so well and is recovering nicely from the GE.

6. Great hearing sbout Teresa
She sounds as busy and as involved on good project as her husband. It's great that they're talking about her work, instead of all the nasty comments they make. What an incedible couple.

7. I've missed Teresa
Teresa was one of the best parts of the campaign - so refreshingly honest. It's great to hear some things from her perspective again. I wish she'd give some interviews or something, but I realize that she doesn't have any reason to do so - I just miss hearing from her!

I love that woman. It makes me sad that the Chimp and his stepford wife are squatting in the whitehouse right now instead of the John and Teresa.:-(

the right-wing has taken this up? They are trying to paint Teresa as some kind of wingnut lunatic because of what she said about the optical scan machines.

It's creepy how they do this, but instructive as well. They are such g_d-damned bullies.

11. And here's a relatively positive
take on the story from Boston's right wing.

http:news.bostonherald.com/election2004/view.bg?articleid=72340

Heinz Kerry's office, when asked to clarify her remarks, had no comment.

But a spokeswoman for the senator stressed Heinz Kerry was voicing her ardent support for election reform.

Said Kerry aide Katharine Lister, "2006 marks the 40th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act and, in the spirit of this landmark law, she hopes Republicans and Democrats will work together at every level of government to ensure the passage of electoral reform and the preservation and protection of our voting rights."

Haha. Way to go.

Maybe they blame a certain MA Senator for leading her astray.

it's their own fault for that nasty campaign against Max Cleland and for being the party of Bush. Otherwise, she'd probably still, ewwww, be a Repub.

17. She might have wanted to vote in the Dem primary even though
Kerry had the nomination by then. Unless she was speaking only on topics they agreed on, she seems to fit as a liberal Democrat better the any type of Republican (and she identified GWB's presidency as 4 more years of Hell.)I don't think she could be a 2005 Republican.

18. I can see that
Like, I don't understand how socially liberal fiscal conservatives could EVER support Bush. He's a hard line right winger on social issues and he's horribly fiscally irresponsible. That's just stupid.

19. They hated her before she did anything
Edited on Thu Mar-10-05 11:02 PM by karynnj
They even made fun of her, her name, her husband, their marriage, and her work. The good thing is she doesn't have to worry that they will thrash her saying or doing anything because they (of little or no character) never stopped attacking either of the Kerrys.

Like, they attack her for no reason so when she gets pissed off, they use that reaction to attack her further. Fucks.

14. Another positive article riffing on Teresa's comments
Teresa Heinz Kerry - Hacking the "Mother Machine"?
Published on Thursday, March 10, 2005 by CommonDreams.org
by Thom Hartmann

"Two brothers own 80 percent of the machines used in the United States," Teresa Heinz Kerry told a group of Seattle guests at a March 7, 2005 lunch for Representative Adam Smith, according to reporter Joel Connelly in an article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Connelly noted Heinz Kerry added that it is "very easy to hack into the mother machines."

The two brothers Mrs. Kerry is referencing are, according to voting machine expert (and founder of www.BanVotingMachines.org Lynn Landes in an article for the Online Journal, Bob Urosevich, president of Diebold Election Systems, and Todd Urosevich, who was vice president for customer support of Chuck Hagel's old company, now known as ES&S.

Presumably the "mother machines" Teresa was talking about are the "central tabulator" computers, like the Windows-based Diebold central tabulator PC that Howard Dean hacked into and untraceably changed an election on - in 90 seconds - live on the "Topic A With Tina Brown" CNBC TV show late last year.

21. She was very clear though
She did not say the election was stolen. She said she did not trust the election machines. It really frustrates me that even lefties put words in her mouth. If she had wanted to say "the election was stolen", she would have. She obviously wants the attention on the machines and election reform and I wish people would follow her lead and use the words she used.

What she thinks privately is her business and doesn't do anything to help anyway.

22. The New York Post did it too
I have to see if I can find the link. The other day there was this tiny little blurb on one of the pages titled "Heinz's Looney Theory" and basically made her sound like a sore loser idiot who couldn't accept that her husband lost fair and square. I expected nothing more from the Post, which is the biggest right wing rag going and if I hadn't gotten the paper for free, I would have never even read it.
