3. Sad but true, but from Bush's perspective they succeeded

he got re-elected. What's more important 100,000+ Iraqi deaths, 1500+ American deaths, the reputation of our country, billions of dollars OR the second coronation of Bush?

What's annoying is when Democrats parrot this. Hillary yesterday talked about how the Democrats had to "persuade a majority of people that you're going to be tough and strong where we need to protect America and our interests" At least 2 independent articles noted that she didn't directly criticize Kerry. Kerry after all has real military experience and many years actually thinking about controlling terrorism.

The problem is that Kerry has been right on many military issues, even before the election, Scowcroft and others often recommended that Bush do things Kerry proposed months before. Hillary, by not (to use her favorite word) framing it as correcting the misconception that Republicans were better at actually keeping us safe, is inadvertently agreeing that they are. His ideas on how to intelligently fight terrorists rather than countries are very important.

The other problem is that although she said that we have to prove we are strong, there was (at least in what I saw) no content of WHAT we would do differently. The only way that she seems to being appearing stronger than Kerry is that she seems more likely to go to war - just what we need!
