Lots of press about Iowa:
John Kerry calls for reopening values debate

http://www.globegazette.com/articles/2005/10/10/state/doc434a023bd1f35904639999.txt
By CHARLOTTE EBY, Globe Des Moines Bureau

DES MOINES — In a return trip to Iowa Sunday, former Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry told a group of women activists it is time to reopen the values debate in America.

The Massachusetts senator said it is good that religion has become more of a part of the public dialogue in the country as long as faith translates into action.

“Faith without works is dead,” Kerry said.

Close to 150 people packed a small Asian restaurant in Iowa’s capitol city for Kerry’s speech in front of a Democratic women’s group.

Kerry said he has continued to push for some of the things his presidential campaign talked about last year, including the “fundamental notion” that all children should have access to affordable health care.

Also this one complete with skateboarding advise. (LOL!)

<snip>

In his first trip back to Johnson County since his presidential campaign, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., told a group of Democrats gathered at Elizabeth Tate High School that the party has a lot of work to do.

"We're fighting for the heart and soul of our nation, for who we are as a civilized nation, as people around the world look at us," he said.

"Americans are good hearted people; Iowans are good hearted people. But do you see that translated into policy?"

<snip>

After his speech, Kerry met with local grassroots organizations, shook hands and even signed a Tate student's skateboard.

Cassandra McWane, 15, said after Kerry signed her skateboard he offered her some advice.

"He was like, 'Please don't break your neck,'" she said. "It was awesome."

I'm so sorry I had to miss this. OTOH if I had been able to go I probably woulda grabbed him and started weeping, and gone all Magistrate on him - Let's go get those Bush Bastards!

5. Vote 2008: Will John Kerry Run Again? ...

At Sunday's candidate rally, Kerry said he wasn't here to drum up support for another shot at the presidency. But KCRG-TV9 News asked him if he's considering running again. "Honestly, I don't know. I really don't know. There's part of me that would love to," Senator Kerry told TV9.

The next presidential election will be in November 2008.

7. I don't think he's completely made up his mind either
But going to Iowa and New Hamphire doesn't hurt. (Just in case.) So much depends on what happens in the Congressional elections next year. Right now, Dems can't get anything good passed in the 109th (Weasel)Congress. Even dead common sense bills like Kerry's LIHEAP are, seemingly, DOA. IT would be nice to kick some Rethugs out, turn Congress over to the sane grown-ups and then pass some long needed legislation. That would be so nice, and give people stuff to run on.

I sincerely think it's too early to tell if a run is viable. (I think it is, but it's early.)
