Randi Rhodes is playing JK's testimony on Air America right now!
You can get the show here, tomorrow:
http://airamericaplace.com/archive.php?mode=show&id=6

She started playing the audio and discussing it around an hour and twenty minutes into the show (though it will be different in the archived version because there are no commercials.)

1. I just realized this duplicates ProSense's post
I hope it's OK to leave mine because the subject line might get the message across more directly? Sorry I didn't see your post 'til too late, ProSense!!!

3. Randi doesn't come on here until 6:00 PM
So I'll tune in when it starts. We don't get her show live in Boston, we get Ed Schultz at 3:00 PM instead.

4. Yep, I meant to point that out!
Now I can listen twice -- once on the computer and once at home on the radio! :-)

5. She's setting things up. She's talking about the Rolling Stone
article - about selling the war.

I can't wait. Randi is a Kerry supporter, and she doesn't pussyfoot around. This is gonna be good.

I haven't heard her bash Dems NEAR as much as she bashes Repubs.

Good for her.

7. They use the same old tired reasoning, conceded to soon,
he is pro-war, blah, blah,blah.
I'm going to contact her and thank her for the Kerry interview. She may be getting some negative feedback.

8. That was really wonderful listening to Kerry at the hearings on V.N.
It was almost eerie. All you had to do is replace Communism with Terrorism, and Viet Nam with Iraq, and you would swear Kerry was talking about today.

I remember after the election, she was just as pissed at Kerry for conceding that many were. But like us, she got over it, and realized this man is still fighting for us. All of the wonderful things he is doing in the Senate.

I think I will email her too. But first, I'm gonna email Ed. Now that was amazing. It was just 2 weeks ago when Ed was Kerry-bashing. Now he turned around. If Randi and Ed are supporting Kerry, we just may see some of these lefty-freeps do the same.

11. I give her credit for paying attention and not having a preconceived
notion about Kerry. To many people form a conclusion about him and then never even look again.

12. interview?
I missed that - but the replay of the hearing was great. Kerry's voice has changed, but it still recognisable,

13. He doesn't have that thick Kennedy New England accent so much
anymore. I imagine he worked on getting rid of that for the campaign.

14. That's an upper class accent. (Sounds like the North Shore.)
Edited on Wed Nov-23-05 07:53 AM by TayTay
The Kennedy accent has always been sort of an original. (It's based on the Boston accent, but it is also it's own thing. No one I know talks just like Teddy Kennedy.)

Mr. Kerry's accent has gone down-market in the years since that testimony. He has spent a lot of time at spaghetti dinners and St. Pat's Day breakfasts and election rallies in working-class Boston and environs. He has lost some of that upper nasal range in his speech that was so 'old Yankee.' He doesn't drop his 'r's as much as your average Bostonian, but he might when he is not 'on stage.' (I have heard him say 'ideer' and 'wanna' for want to. He has changed. Who doesn't change in 30+ years. His accent has modulated and he sounds less 'upper class old yankee' and more like his constituents.)

I never knew anyone with that speech that Sen. Kerry had in the SFRC testimony from '71. I know tons and tons of people who talk like he does now. (He has lost the long 'A' sound, mostly. He used to say Aahnt and caahnt. Now he says ahnt and cahnt, which is a shorter sound.)
