The Swifties are BACK, big time,
Edited on Sun Jun-25-06 12:47 AM by whometense
swiftboating Murtha exactly as they did Kerry.

Taylor Marsh:

According to Kerry himself, the part of the Swiftboat argument he was prepared to defend was his Senate testimony and antiwar stance after serving in Vietnam. What blew him out of the water was the slanderous attack on his actual service and heroism.

Besides, as I've written about for years, Republicans like their soldiers serving, silent and standing for photo ops, not talking back. When a vet speaks out he's targeted. Murtha is just the latest.

The real issue for me, like with John Kerry, is that the Marine Corps awarded Murtha's medal, which he received with honor. He's trusted by many soldiers and military men throughout the civilian and Pentagon establishment. Republican war horse, Senator John Warner, backed Kerry's service and his medals. Warner signed off on Kerry's Silver Star. I believe the Marine Corps when it comes to Murtha, as well as the many, many people, including soldiers, who stand behind him.

But does anyone really believe it's a coincidence that Snesko and his wife are attached to Duncan Hunter's office? I would like to know if yet another Republican is involved in the swiftboating campaign of yet another veteran. Is Duncan Hunter, who was part of the 173rd Airborne and 75th Army Rangers and served in Vietnam, or his office, involved with this latest campaign to swiftboat Jack Murtha? Ask him. Or is this just a coincidental chain of people reaching back to the Swiftboat for Smears that targeted John Kerry? Frankly, I'm not a big believer in coincidences, but that's just me.

If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend reading the whole story very carefully. There is a ton of info to digest in there about the tight web of nastiness that the Swifties are built inot.

And their formal (that;s right, formal ties to the republican party.

Plus there was this a few days ago:

Profile In Treason: John Murtha
By Dave Gibson on Jun 23, 2006

Though the left-leaning John F. Kennedy Library Foundation recently gave Congressman John Murtha (D-PA) their Profile In Courage Award, there is little doubt that the former president whose name adorns the award was spinning in his grave when the seditious John Murtha was named as a 2006 recipient. Murtha, who has been giving encouragement to the insurgents in Iraq since his call for U.S. withdrawal last November, chose the side of our enemy when he recently characterized U.S. Marines as murderers...

...ormer Congressman Don Bailey (D-PA) has said many times that Murtha admitted to him in the 1980’s that he did not really deserve his two Purple Hearts. In January, Bailey told Cybercast News Service: “(Murtha) is putting himself forward as some combat veteran with serious wounds and he’s using that and it’s dishonest and it’s wrong.” Bailey is a Vietnam veteran serving in the Army’s 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and one Silver Star.

Congressman Murtha just as Sen. John Kerry has refused to sign form 180, which would release his military medical records. Apparently, Murtha has something to hide which may be the ultimate motivation behind his attack on American Marines in Iraq. Perhaps, in his persecution of current combat soldiers he is exorcising his own demons.

Deja vu all over again, isn't it??

The site heading is rich: "News By Us, not news bias: commentary, News Analysis and Opinion without a hidden agenda"

UPDATE: Crooks and Liars is all over the story too. I find the ease with which the story is spreading to be very good news.

Democrat Strategy of Retreat to Defeat not working
By Sher Zieve (06/22/2006)

Ah, yes, Senator Kerry (D-MA)-the US' and US soldiers' worst nightmare. That is, next to one of his partners in crime-Rep. Jack Murtha (D-PA). On varying days, either one could be #1 or #2 in the trash-talk-the-troops department, contingent upon which one opens his mouth first-on that particular day. Both of these Democrats, the self-proclaimed "war heroes", received their "combat medals" under less than reliable circumstances. So, they both believe they can trash our troops. And they do. Besides, this is the way one receives the most money from the deep-pockets anti-US militant wing of the Democrat Party. It's a tough job-but, somebody's got to do it.

Again obviously dreaming of his pretend Swift Boat glory days in Viet Nam, away from the actual fighting, John Kerry put together an ill thought out plan to bring the troops home from Iraq-by the end of 2006. His colleagues, no doubt behind his back, called the plan idiotic and Kerry revised it to place the date of US withdrawal at 1 July 2007. Now that should scare the terrorists! I'm surprised that Kerry didn't threaten al-Qaeda with: "And if you're not careful, we'll leave even sooner!"

This is not journalism this is pure hate and lies and needs to be stopped.

3. Your link is broken
The thing is that most of these sites are 501c3

Donations to 501c3 organizations which are tax-exempt under section 501(c)3 of the U.S. tax code are tax deductible, "unlike donations to political and lobbying organizations." <1> (http://www.hillnews.com/news/031704/charities.aspx) (see also The U.S. tax code and non profits)

501c3 "charities don't have to report their contributors to the Federal Election Commission, the IRS or any federal agency." <2> (http://www.hillnews.com/news/031704/charities.aspx)

"By law, charities must only conduct nonpartisan voter activities to keep their tax-exempt status. But the law also allows charities to register and mobilize likely Democratic or Republican voters." <3> (http://www.hillnews.com/news/031704/charities.aspx)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nichols Confessore, "Bush's Secret Stash. Why the GOP war chest is even bigger than you think," (http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2004/0405.confessore.html) Washington Monthly, May 2004:

"There are, however, a few key differences that make 501(c)s a far more insidious vehicle for soft money. The law does not require that they disclose how much they spend until well after Election Day. Worse, they don't have to disclose who their donors are at all. Even foreign governments can in theory give money, with no questions asked. No one knows how much the Republican shadow party has raised or will spend this year. But the tens of millions they spent in 2002 were instrumental in putting the Senate back in GOP hands--and there's every possibility they could help push Bush and the Republicans over the line come November."
