Winter Trees
I'm working on defining my personal vision of fine art. I consider this a practice image, and I would really appreciate
the critique of my fellow DU photo buffs!

1. This is really pretty
I like the way the frost kind of stands out from the rest of the picture.

2. I made the serious mistake of wandering over into GD
... this evening. So.... my head is a little out of whack to give an objective opinion on your photo. Once I cool down I'll get back to you.

I'm going snappin' tomorrow. Haven't done that in awhile. I'll be in a better frame of mind.

night'

3. Very pretty
My only suggestion would be lighten up the photo just a bit.

4. I bet this photo loses a lot
being small enough for the web. I also bet it would be gorgeous really big, like at least a 20x30 inch print. You might try adding a bit more contrast though not sure. That might ruin the feel. I like the feel now but like I said, it probably lost a lot just being sized down to a web size in both depth and detail.

5. I have more questions than comments
Are you asking for comments on your 'darkroom' work, the photograph, or both?

Have you written an Artist Statement? What is it about this photo that appeals to you? What is it that you want the viewer to see?

'Fine Art' photography is a strange boid and is extremely subjective. The fact that you are looking to define your own personal vision ..... to stand out .... to recognize the importance of this.... you're definitely walking down the correct path.

I really can't comment on a small lo-res image posted on the web. Ya' see.. one of the many important elements of 'Fine Art' photography is the Print itself. The printing process.

But since ya' asked.... I'll try....

I don't care for the color/tone, but I might think differently if I saw this in Print. The sky is distracting. It looks out-of-place from the rest of the image. Overall... it doesn't engage me... draw me in. I have to force myself to look at it.

See? Extremely subjective.

If this was my pic I'd play with different soup (processing) recipes... definitely play with some crops... and I'd play around with some dodging, weaving, and burning.. in places. But.. this isn't my pic. It's yours. With 'Fine Art' the first person you need to please is yourself.

I don't know if any of this has been helpful or I just pissed you off. Keep in mind... if you want to take a plunge into the 'Fine Art' world ya' better be ready to have your photos ripped to shreds. Thin Skin photographers will die a death of a thousand cuts in the 'Fine Art' biz.

Have fun... and good luck.
:hi:
